Salma Hayek Jimenez
Salma Hayek Jimenez was born on September 2,
1966 in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz, Mexico. She is the
daughter of Sami Hayek, Lebanese oil executive, and
Diana Jimenez, an opera singer and talent scout.
Hayek had a lot of difficulties in school and was later
diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 12. At an early
age, Hayek began training as a gymnast to compete in
the Olympics. During that time she was sent to live
with her aunt in Huston, Texas until she was 17. Upon
graduation she returned to Mexico to study at a
university in Mexico City. Much to her family’s
surprise, she dropped out to pursue a career in
acting.
At the age of 23, she landed her first tile role as
Teresa. This film made Salma a star in Mexico. In
1991, Hayek moved to Los Angeles to study acting
more seriously. Her big break came in 1995 when she
starred opposite of Antonio Banderas in Desperado.
Hayek went on to play in multiple blockbusters
including Fools Rush In, From Dusk Till Dawn. Dogma,
Wild Wild West, any many more.
Salma Hayek is an actress, director and a producer.
She has appeared in more than 30 films in the United
States, Mexico, and Spain. She was the first Mexican
National ever to be nominated for an Academy Award
for Best Actress.
As well as being an actress, Hayek also is a
philanthropist. She is an advocate of ending violence
against women and discrimination against
immigrants.
Salma Hayek is a talented actress, strong women, and
a leader for the Hispanic community.
