An athlete’s ability to keep his/her eye on the ball (aka gaze stability) depends on a healthy balance system. Preliminary analysis of Dr. Honaker’s work suggests that vestibular testing can identify athletes with a previous concussion. Adding objective testing into the concussion evaluation and management protocol may be able to better identify and management the effects of concussion. Further evaluation of this finding is the aim of future work in her lab within the CB3, with more sophisticated vestibular and balance function tests. Figure: ROC analysis indicates that a vestibular test called Gaze stabilization is a useful measure for identifying athletes with a history of concussion
