This document provides a workbook activity to help students practice using descriptive adjectives when introducing themselves. It includes lists of adjectives describing appearance, personality, feelings, shape, size, time, quantity, sound, taste, touch, and color. Students are instructed to choose adjectives that describe themselves and their families/friends/interests and provide an example to clarify the meaning. The goal is to help students feel more comfortable describing themselves using descriptive words.
1. WorkbookActivity:
Students often find themselves at a loss of words when they need to introduce
themselves to the interviewer. Trainers often get the query around the vocabulary
enhancement. Howeverthe more important thing to remember here is, that more
than the knowledge of the word it is the usage that creates the impact. The
followingactivity is designed to bridge the gap between knowledge and usage.
Listed below you wouldfind wordsthat describe the characteristic traits of
personality. Refer to the dictionary forthe meanings of these words. For further
clarification,if required, consult the trainer. Once clear with the meaning, try and
associate these wordswith your ownpersonality. Try and use as many words as
possible. While describing your characteristic traits by the help of these words, cite
an example to further clarify the meaning. For example:
“I believeI am suitableforthisjobbecauseI am prudent”.
Meaningofthe word:Wise/Far-sighted.
Clarification: “My profileincludedinteractionwiththecustomers,duringmy
last industrial training.So Itookan innovativeapproachanddecidedalong
with the otherexecutivesto wear a smileybatch. Thisdidn’tonlymakethe
officeenvironmentpleasantforthecustomers,but also made it lessstressful
forthe employees.“
It is encouraged that students use as many words as possible. They could choose to
use the same list of words to describe their family members, friends, relatives,
movies, role models, favorite companies, places, et al.
