8. LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Fashion industry is A very vast industry. Today everyone is spending
more money on their looks, because of this fashion industry increasing
day by day, many industries are entering in this market to expertise in
designing, functionality and comfort.
I have learnt many things about designing through my mentor which
helped me to enter in this fashion industry.
According to my learning in this one year i came to know that fashion is
not only glamour or style it is more about comfort and functionality. I
learnt that how to design garment using elements and principles of
design, use of surface ornamentation like fabric manipulation,
embroidery etc.
To give proper fit in a garment we can use various techniques like
draping and pattern engineering that i have learnt in this one year
bachelor's of science in fashion technology and 1 year diploma.

11. FOUNDATION DESIGN
Colour is the most important factor. Colour is A base of everything
which changes the mood of the person, some colours makes you happy
and some depressed. When we go to buy something colour attracts us
the most.
In fashion colour play and important role. It can change the personality
of A person. Some of the factor influencing the choice of colours –
Effect of light – colours looks different in daylight and at night under
artificial light.
Size of person – colour also affect the size of a person like bright
colours makes us look larger then dull colours, lighter colours are more
noticeable then darker.
Occasion - a impression of fine colours in dress will be gained if the
colours are becoming to the person who is to wear them if they are right
for the occasion.
Texture, complexion and personality are other factors which influence
the colour choices.
Elements and principles
Elements – elements are important factor design something, without
element we can not design any thing.

12. Line – A line is series of connecting points. It is the simplest element of
design. All line have A width, length and direction. Types of line –
vertical, horizontal and diagonal. Lines used in A garment – seam line,
hemline, tucks, pleats, darts etc.
Shape – joining lines is creating new shapes like triangle, square etc.
Fashion industry works on silhouettes. Silhouettes are the shape of the
body after wearing garment. Shapes used in A garment as – silhouettes,
prints, cuts etc.
Colours – colours is an important element, there are three types of
colour – primary, secondary and tertiary.
13. Every colour has three characteristics – hue, value and chroma.
Hue – name of the colour such as red, yellow etc.
Value – lightness and darkness of any colour.
Chroma – brightness and dullness of any colour.
Texture – texture is surface quality of any object is of three types –

20. Illustration is A base of fashion design. If we want design something we
should be able to explain our design and illustration is a way to illustrate
our idea on paper. Illustration is very important of every designer.
In this one year we have learnt different theories ( 8 head theory, 10
head theory and 12 head theory) which we are using to illustrate any
garment
.I have learn how to use different shapes in a illustration and different
types of shading like hatching, cross hatching,, smudging, stippling and
strokes and use of all in a garment. Illustrate female croqui by flashing
on head theories with accurate proportion.
We also learnt that how we create details of garment( yokes, pockets,
collars, sleeves etc.) in a illustration. We also illustrate some designs of
indian fashion designers like manish malhotra, neeta lulla, J.J, valaya,
Ritu Beri and sabhyasachi.
If we design any garment we have to specify the illustration with a
specification sheet Now we are able to illustrate our imagination on
paper and explain our design to others.

40. Drafting is also an important subject in designing. This is a way to give
new look to any garment.
Drafting is creating shapes through measurements, combination of
shapes in drafting every shape which we can use made by accurate
measurements. In drafting we can create new shapes and motif. Set of
motifs create patterns which we can use in any garment through prints,
embroidery, cuts etc.
In this one year we have learnt creating new shapes with different
methods of drafting and different patterns. Now we can create new
pattern of our design which we can use in any garment using any
surface design technique.
DRAFTING

42. Surface design technique is very important subject in the field of fashion
designing. Surface design technique is A way to give new look to any
garment.
There are two methods of surface design technique - one is structural
and second is decorative.
Structural - in structural we design the surface before the final fabric or
garment had been made. Some of structural design techniques are –
woven textile, embroidery, printing, painting, dyed, patch work, and
fabric manipulation.
Woven textile - in woven textile the design is creating while weaving.
In weaving warp and weft are interlaced with each other on loom. To
create design an extra warp or weft or A different colour thread is
interlaced. Different type of woven textiles are –
Brocade of varanasi , chanderi , kanchipuram , kota doria, maheshwari
sarees etc.
Embroidery – embroidery is a surface design technique. This is
structural and decorative. Embroidery is done by needle and thread on
A fabric. IN embroidery we can use different types of threads like cotton
and silk. In india every state has there own traditional embroidery like –
Phulkari of panjab, kantha of west bengal, kashida of kashmir, applique
work of orissa , metal embroidery, gujarati embroidery etc.
SURFACE DESIGN TECHNIQUE
43. Dyed – in dyed textile the fabric is dyed with different colour dye. The
dye is in liquid form . in dyed textile the fabric is tied by A thread and
then the fabric is dipped into A color dye. These dye can be natural or
synthetic. In India different way to dye A fabric –
Ikat , patola of gujarat, bandhani of rajasthan and gujarat etc.
Printing – in printing colour used in paste form. The paste is can be
natural or synthetic. The paste applied on fabric using different ways like
Mata ni pachadi, pabuji par, block print, sanganeri prints, bagru prints
etc.
Painting - painting is done on fabric using brush or. Kalam. Through
brush the colour is applied on fabric and draw any design to ornament
the surface
Kalamkari is A way to painting on A fabric. In kalamkari mostly natural
colours are used.
Patch work – in patch work different fabric of different prints and
colours are stitched with each other. This is A structural design
technique.
Decorative - in decorative design technique we decorate the surface
after the fabric or garment had been made. Some of decorative design
techniques are – embroidery, painting, printing, applique work and fabric
manipulation.
Fabric manipulation - in fabric manipulation we create design by
manipulating fabric we have done some fabric manipulation we can
manipulate fabric using tucks, darts, pleats etc.
Applique work - In applique work the surface is designed by applying
a different fabric on a garment.
44. EMBROIDERRY
Embroidery is a surface design technique which is used to create new
designs on fabric or garment. This is structural and decorative.
Embroidery is done by needle and thread on A fabric. IN embroidery we
can use different types of threads like cotton and silk.
In India every state has there own traditional embroidery like –
Phulkari of panjab, kantha of west Bengal, kashida of Kashmir, Kashida
of Bihar, applique work of Orissa , metal embroidery, Guajarati
embroidery etc.
45. Phulkari of Panjab

geometric motifs and
bright colours.
46. Kantha Of West
Bengal
Kantha is embroidery of
West Bengal. In kantha
mostly fish and floral
motif is used But for
contemporary look I have
used geometric pattern in
this Kanth embroidery.
47. FABRIC MANIPULATION
This is manipulation
which is done using box
pleat and manipulate
them. We can use this
manipulation in any
formal and party wear
garment using different
colour and size.
48. FABRIC MANIPULATION
This manipulation is done
by using two different
colored fabric. This
manipulation we can use
in any party wear garment
using different color and
fabric.
49. FABRIC MANIPULATION
This manipulation is done
by using wide box pleat.
We can use this in any
professional garment
using different size colour
and fabric.

51. Coral is a vector graphic software which helps me to design my layout
and presentation and I can visualize my design specification and pages.
Few of my work are complied on it.
For a designer coral draw graphic software solution with its content rich
environment and professional graphic design, style and creativity with
endless possibilities.
In coral we can illustrate our design and check that how it is look on a
human body, creating patterns and motifs etc. with different tools like
shape tool, 3 point curve, artistic media, smart fill tools etc. In coral we
can fill different texture and pattern in our illustration.

58. DRAPING
Draping is a method where we are
drape a fabric directly on a dress
form. Draping is a very ancient and
popular method, This is also an
easy method which we can use to
design any dress. Through draping
we can create different designs,
styles and cuts in any garment
using darts, pleats, tucks etc.
In this one year I have learnt so
many things. We have done
different dart series –
Single Dart Series – In single dart
series we have done side dart,
shoulder dart, mid armhole princess
style line, mid shoulder princess
style line etc.
Double Dart Series – In double
dart series we have done shoulder
and waist dart, side and waist dart,
mid armhole and waist dart etc.
We also done draping with dart less
bodice block, parallel dart, radiating
dart, vortex and origami.
71. GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
Garment construction is very important subject for every fashion
designing student. Garment construction is a subject in which we are
learn how to construct a garment with proper measurement and fit.
There are two method to construct a garment – Flat pattern method and
Draping method
Draping Method – Draping is the oldest method to construct a garment.
In draping we drape the fabric directly on a dress form and create
different designs in garment.
Flat Pattern Method – In flat pattern method were the body
measurements are taken from the body or dress form to develop a
pattern. This system depend on accurate measurement so that the
design evolves with proper fit.
Sloper –Sloper is set of pattern pieces. Sloper is used in flat pattern
method. Sloper is a basic draft which is used to create a paper pattern.
This is without seam allowance. Without sloper we can not create any
garment in flat pattern method. This is creating by measurements.
