The Vocational Training for Afghan Women Project (VTAWP) aims to increase self-sufficiency among vulnerable women in Kabul through technical and vocational training. The project has three components: vocational training for widows, promoting social acceptance of women in vocational roles, and building institutional capacity. It provides a holistic training cycle along with literacy courses, life skills training, and assistance finding employment or starting businesses after graduation. As of March 2009, over 400 trainees had graduated from courses such as bag making, bakery, and carpentry. The project also works to strengthen the capacity of its local training partners.
