This document summarizes a presentation about incubating the Linked Media Framework (LMF) as an Apache project. LMF is an open source linked data server that handles both content and metadata using Semantic Web technologies like RDF, SPARQL and SKOS. The presentation outlines the opportunities of joining Apache to foster wider adoption of Semantic Web standards and describes LMF's existing codebase, releases and developer community as a starting point for incubation. It invites participation and questions from the audience.

2. Linked Data
● A paradigm for data interaction across the
Web, based on four basic principles:
1. Use URIs as names for things
2. Use HTTP URIs so that people can look up
3. Provide useful information using the standards
(RDF*, SPARQL)
4. Include links to more things
● Proposed by Tim Berners-Lee in 2006

3.
4. RDF
● W3C Resource Description Framework
● Directed labeled graphs
● Triple-based data model
– (subject, predicate, object)
● One model, several serializations:
– RDF/XML, Turtle, N3, JSON-LD, RDFa
● Actually a whole technology stack
– RDFS, OWL, SPARQL, RIF
8. Linked Data Platform
● Mission of producing a standard for HTTP-
based (RESTful) application integration
patterns using Read-Write Linked Data.
● W3C Working Group started in June 2012
– 1st public working draft published in October
– Planned for June 2014
● Technology available according the W3C
Patent Policy

9. Linked Media Framework
● LMF is an easy-to-setup Linked Data server that
bundles core Semantic Web technologies
● Handles both Content and Metadata
● Open Source Software (Apache License 2.0)

15. Linda Incubation Proposal
● Opportunities:
– Open source and community-driven
implementation of Semantic Web standards
● Joining other Apache projects: Stanbol, Jena, Any23
– Foster the use of Semantic Web Technologies
at the industry
● Starting point: what LMF can offer?
– Solid codebase
– Stable artifact (2.4 is about to be released)
– Compact core development team
– Involved in the research community
