7 Shocking Findings From Workfront’s
2015 State of Enterprise Work Report
Introduction
As enterprises grow, so do the demands on their employees in terms of
productivity and communication. Too often, this pushes existing tools,
processes, and schedules to the breaking point. This year’s State of
Enterprise Work Report from Workfront, the leading provider of work
management solutions for enterprises, set out to identify the drivers
behind and the results of this work chaos. Here are the 7 biggest
revelations from this year’s study…
Finding #1: The vast majority of office workers think highly of their
own productivity; they’re less sure about their co-workers.
We asked office workers:
“How would you rate the following groups overall with regard to
their productivity?”
81% rated themselves high in productivity compared to their co-
workers, managers, leaders, and direct reports
63% rated their direct reports the same
53% rated their managers comparably
Finding #2: Cross-team conflict is on the rise.
As in our 2014 study, we asked office workers:
“Which of the following is the most common source of conflict with other
departments/teams/groups/teams?”
10% didn’t experience conflict with any department/group/team
From 2014 to 2015, the percentage of office workers who experience conflict with any
other group increased from 80% to 90%
Finding #3: Conflict is generated primarily by poor communication and alignment.
We asked 90% of office workers experiencing conflict:
“Where does your conflict with other departments/groups/teams
come from?”
1/3 blame conflict on poor communication
22% blame conflicting priorities
6% blame personality/cultural differences
Finding #4: Office workers are always on the clock.
We asked office workers:
“During a typical work week, how often do you log into work/work
email before or after standard business hours?”
82% log into work outside of normal business hours
52% so this every weekday
Finding #5: Everybody’s working on the weekend.
We also asked office workers:
“How often do you log into work/work email on the
weekend?”
72% log in to work on the weekends
39% do this every weekend
Finding #6: The real work begins after hours.
We asked office workers who work outside on standard business hours:
“What are the reasons why you work outside standard business hours?”
52% to get of their work
39% because they have more than they can complete during their
standard workday
25% because it’s expected at their company
10% to look better than their colleagues
Finding #7: Office workers are generally optimistic about their work.
91% say someone at work has their back
87% say their boss listens to them
78% feel empowered at work

This year’s State of Enterprise Work Report from Workfront, the leading provider of work management solutions for enterprises, set out to identify the drivers behind and the results of this work chaos.   • 3. Finding #1: The vast majority of office workers think highly of their own productivity; they’re less sure about their co-workers.
  • 4. We asked office workers: “How would you rate the following groups overall with regard to their productivity?” 81% rated themselves high in productivity compared to their co- workers, managers, leaders, and direct reports 63% rated their direct reports the same 53% rated their managers comparably
  • 5. Finding #2: Cross-team conflict is on the rise.
  • 6. As in our 2014 study, we asked office workers: “Which of the following is the most common source of conflict with other departments/teams/groups/teams?” 10% didn’t experience conflict with any department/group/team From 2014 to 2015, the percentage of office workers who experience conflict with any other group increased from 80% to 90%
  • 7. Finding #3: Conflict is generated primarily by poor communication and alignment.
  • 8. We asked 90% of office workers experiencing conflict: “Where does your conflict with other departments/groups/teams come from?” 1/3 blame conflict on poor communication 22% blame conflicting priorities 6% blame personality/cultural differences
  • 9. Finding #4: Office workers are always on the clock.
  • 10. We asked office workers: “During a typical work week, how often do you log into work/work email before or after standard business hours?” 82% log into work outside of normal business hours 52% so this every weekday
  • 11. Finding #5: Everybody’s working on the weekend.
  • 12. We also asked office workers: “How often do you log into work/work email on the weekend?” 72% log in to work on the weekends 39% do this every weekend
  • 13. Finding #6: The real work begins after hours.
  • 14. We asked office workers who work outside on standard business hours: “What are the reasons why you work outside standard business hours?” 52% to get of their work 39% because they have more than they can complete during their standard workday 25% because it’s expected at their company 10% to look better than their colleagues
  • 15. Finding #7: Office workers are generally optimistic about their work.
  • 16. 91% say someone at work has their back 87% say their boss listens to them 78% feel empowered at work
