Editor's Notes
This is a picture of victims from one of the many concentration camps around 1940’s Europe that was part of the Holocaust
Jews had to register themselves and their families. They were issued with these badges to sew onto their sleeves. At first many did this voluntarily as they believed they were registering for employment. Unknown to them – these badges were actually going to be used to help the Nazi’s gather the Jews once their campaign began
Jewish People were rounded up and forced from their homes – carry few items.
They were put on to over crowded trains. In the early years many victims went voluntary believing that they were being taken to find work
Train lines usually only had one destination – the gates of many concentrations camps around areas of Europe. This is a famous camp called Autzwich in Poland. The words over the gate translate as ‘WORK MAKES YOU FREE’
Once inside the camps – woman, men and children would have been separated. The would have had their cold, valuables, clothes, shoes, glasses taken away from them. Do you know what happened to them next?
Once in the camps your body was no longer your own. Many pregnant women in the camps would have met this man. His name is D Carl…. And he performed experiments to see how pregnancy could be terminated and the mother’s uterus then injected with glue and acid.
His experiments then extended to young woman and female children as he attempted to sterilize them using many of these instruments.
Others were over worked…..
….and starved of food.
This is a picture of a gas chamber used to terminate many of the prisoner’s lives. Many of these rooms were disguised as ‘Shower rooms’
Their bodies were then incinerated in oven’s like these
In the 1970 fight for gay rights – homosexuals took ownership of the pink symbol as a symbol of pride and the colour has positive meanings still today
