“A successful mentoring programme can make a significant difference to the ability of
young entrepreneurs to succeed in business.”
The Mentoring Specialist Track will have a strong focus on knowledge sharing, exploring
good practice and networking. To this end, the Mentoring Specialist Track will consist of the
following:
i. Technical sessions led by world leading mentoring expert Professor David Clutterbuck
and mentoring subject matter experts John Cull and John Sutherland Wright. Sessions
will focus on mentor and mentee training, mentoring skills, evaluation and the art of
making a successful match
ii. YBI member led presentations covering mentoring successes, challenges and new
mentoring innovations
iii. Sessions to build and strengthen the mentoring community to enable on-going
knowledge and experience sharing
iv. An overview of the YBI mentoring offering to members – what we have accomplished to
date, where we hope to be whilst inviting feedback from members on where we should
focus our efforts
v. Opportunities to meet with organisations external to the network who operate as
specialists in the field of mentoring
By the end of the week it is anticipated that colleagues will have:
 A stronger sense of being part of a global mentoring community
 Developed relationships with fellow mentoring practitioners by sharing experiences
and learning from one another
 An increased awareness about mentoring innovations, challenges and successes
taking place within and external to the network
 Contributed to strategies for improving the process of learning from one another
and identified potential collaboration opportunities

11:15 - 12:15 Member Presentations: New and Potential Members of the YBI network
This is an opportunity to learn about your fellow members’ mentoring programmes
including their successes, challenges and innovations. Each member will have 5-12
minutes (dependent on size of mentoring programme) to present aspects of their
mentoring programme including a two minute video. If members do not yet have a
mentoring programme, there is the option to present what ‘after care’ / support ser-
vices / alternatives to mentoring they provide an entrepreneur. After every 4-5
presentations, there will be a short Q&A panel session moderated by John Cull.

Mentoring Skills for Success
For this session, you have the choice of attending one of two training workshops:
Option A is aimed at members who: would like to familiarise themselves with YBI’s full mentor training workshop.
Have not yet delivered mentor training and plan to do so.
Option B is designed for those who: may already be familiar with the full YBI mentor induction training workshop
and would like to learn new mentoring tools and models.

This session will give colleagues an opportunity to observe and participate in YBI’s standard mentor induction train-
ing workshop. This workshop will be led by YBI’s mentoring subject matter expert, John Cull.

This session is a highly practical and interactive workshop, which follows on from YBI’s Mentor Induction Training. It
will introduce colleagues to effective mentoring tools and models which will enable colleagues to enhance their
mentoring skills and those of their mentors. Time will be provided within the workshop to practice these tools and
colleagues will be given practical support and guidance from the trainer to help them gain confidence using these
tools.

 The background to mentoring
 The building blocks of learning
 The skills required by a mentor
 Exploring some additional tools for effective mentoring
- Readiness to change model
- The Inner game model
- Circle of concern (controlling the controllables)
- Push/Pull approach
- G.R.O.W.
- Go-Mad (possibility thinking framework)
- Reflective practice
Tuesday 10th September
“Mentoring Skills for Success”

15:30 - 17:15 It Takes Two to Tango: The Role of the Mentee
Are you facing challenges persuading your young entrepreneurs that mentoring is a good idea? Are they reluc-
tant to have a mentor? Are relationships failing because the mentee’s expectations have not been managed?
This session will discuss the role of the mentee in the mentoring relationship and colleagues are invited to share
their experiences. YBI’s new mentee training workshop will be shared.
17:15 - 17:30 Summary of the day
17:30 Delegates to make their own way back to the Strand Palace Hotel or to any pre arranged receptions. YBI staff
will be on hand to direct delegates.

A Mentoring Master Class with world leading expert, Professor David Clutterbuck
A mentoring seminar by world leading expert, Professor David Clutterbuck on key areas such as matching, effec-
tive supervision and evaluation.
David Clutterbuck brought the concept of supported mentoring to Europe in the 1980s and is a leading authori-
ty globally in both coaching and mentoring. David has written more than 55 books and is visiting professor at
two universities. He practises what he preaches by taking on a major learning challenge every year.
Specialists from the MEL, OMS and Training Specialists Tracks may join for part or the whole of this session.

14:00 - 15:00 Building a Knowledge Community: Learning from What We Do
A panel session with YBI subject specialists to exchange experiences and insights in the four areas of the special-
ist tracks: mentoring; training; technology and systems; and monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL). The
panel will set the scene for the next breakouts. See the Summit agenda for full details.

Another opportunity to network with your mentoring peers and the wider Global Summit. Mentoring Specialists

one another, connecting mentors and mentees across the network and the role that YBI can play in facilitating
this. This session will also incorporate a focus on delegate’s mentoring development goals beyond the track.

Mentoring track agenda

  • 1. “A successful mentoring programme can make a significant difference to the ability of young entrepreneurs to succeed in business.” The Mentoring Specialist Track will have a strong focus on knowledge sharing, exploring good practice and networking. To this end, the Mentoring Specialist Track will consist of the following: i. Technical sessions led by world leading mentoring expert Professor David Clutterbuck and mentoring subject matter experts John Cull and John Sutherland Wright. Sessions will focus on mentor and mentee training, mentoring skills, evaluation and the art of making a successful match ii. YBI member led presentations covering mentoring successes, challenges and new mentoring innovations iii. Sessions to build and strengthen the mentoring community to enable on-going knowledge and experience sharing iv. An overview of the YBI mentoring offering to members – what we have accomplished to date, where we hope to be whilst inviting feedback from members on where we should focus our efforts v. Opportunities to meet with organisations external to the network who operate as specialists in the field of mentoring By the end of the week it is anticipated that colleagues will have:  A stronger sense of being part of a global mentoring community  Developed relationships with fellow mentoring practitioners by sharing experiences and learning from one another  An increased awareness about mentoring innovations, challenges and successes taking place within and external to the network  Contributed to strategies for improving the process of learning from one another and identified potential collaboration opportunities Welcome to London and the YBI Mentoring Specialist Track Mentoring Specialist Track

Time will be provided within the workshop to practice these tools and colleagues will be given practical support and guidance from the trainer to help them gain confidence using these tools.   • 7. 15:00 - 15:30 Break 15:30 - 17:15 It Takes Two to Tango: The Role of the Mentee Are you facing challenges persuading your young entrepreneurs that mentoring is a good idea? Are they reluc- tant to have a mentor? Are relationships failing because the mentee’s expectations have not been managed? This session will discuss the role of the mentee in the mentoring relationship and colleagues are invited to share their experiences. YBI’s new mentee training workshop will be shared. 17:15 - 17:30 Summary of the day 17:30 Delegates to make their own way back to the Strand Palace Hotel or to any pre arranged receptions. David Clutterbuck brought the concept of supported mentoring to Europe in the 1980s and is a leading authori- ty globally in both coaching and mentoring. David has written more than 55 books and is visiting professor at two universities. He practises what he preaches by taking on a major learning challenge every year.
