social problems. Finalists receive a trip to the final event at
the University of Texas in Austin, where the overall winner
receives $50,000. Deadline is March 1, 2010.
Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge: Open to

ING Unsung Heroes Competition: Are you an educator
whose school is short on funding but long on potential?

Venturers Chloe and Alex from Climate Action Club are
launching a new project in 2010. Based in Newcastle, ME First
Here, Then Everywhere (FHTE) is an online platform for young
environmentalists to connect, share and collaborate. The project
already has participants from 8 different countries. FHTE is an
extension of Climate Action Club, launched in 2008. The new site
is set to launch later this year, check out their current site.

New Hampshire
Frustrated with the lack of free range poultry in Weare, NH, Sarah and Jane launched
the new Venture Two Spring Chicks. In collaboration with 4-H New Hampshire, the
Venture plans to educate the community on the importance of agriculture and provide
healthier organic food options to their community.
Melina and her Venture, Spread the Dough, were recently featured in
the Foster's Daily Democrat. The team launched in 2005 and recently
became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Click here to read the full

United Way Partnership spreads to Maryland
The United Way of Central Maryland has been awarded a $30,000 grant from
SimpexGrinnell and Tyco to implement Youth Venture Programs in
Harford and Howard Counties next year. Based in Baltimore, it is
now the fifth United Way-Youth Venture partnership nationwide.

Youth Venture lends helping hand on MLK Day
On January 18, Youth Venture staff participated in two
community projects in honor of Dr. King's legacy of
service. In Providence, RI, Youth Venture joined over
400 City Year RI volunteers to paint murals and clean
up the campus of Roger Williams Middle School.
In New Hampshire, Youth Venture participated in a
statewide MLK Day Food Drive. In collaboration with
Volunteer NH, United Ways of NH and several local Pictured: YV Staff Serve in Providence, RI
organization, the drive collected over 3,000 pounds
of non-perishable items!
