GEOGRAPHY Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world. It occupies roughly half of South America, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Brazil covers a total land area of 3,287,357 sq. mi.
GEOGRAPHY The Amazon River is located in Brazil which is the largest river in Brazil as well as one of the longest in the world. The rainforest that covers the Amazon Basin constitutes almost half of the rainforests on the earth.
PEOPLE Anyone born in Brazil is a Brazilian citizen. Brazilians are mainly descendants of colonial and post-colonial Portuguese settlers and immigrants who arrived in Brazil mostly from the 1820s until the 1970s.
PEOPLE The ethnic compositions is not uniform across the country due to European immigrants from the 19th century. Genetic studies have shown the Brazilian population as a whole to have European, African, and Native Americans components.
CULTURE The core culture of Brazil came from the Portuguese culture because of the strong ties to the Portuguese empire. The Portuguese introduced their language as well as their Catholic religion to the Brazilians.
CULTURE Immigrants from all over played important role in the culture of Brazil especially in its Music, Food, and Language.  They organized communities that became important cities and brought important contributions to the culture of Brazil.
HISTORY Pedro AlvaresCebrel was the first to discover Brazil on April 22, 1500. On Sept. 7, 1822, Brazil declared its independence from Portugal.
HISTORY A military coup in 1889 established a republican government. The country has seen a dictatorship and a period of military rule.
