- Inter American Human Rights System Web site of the Organisation of American States Documents – Treaties, resolutions etc. Across all subject that OAS deals with not just Human Rights. Treaties includes treaties by subject, ratfication and reservation information Drop down at the top links to different parts of OAS, including Human Rights, Indigenous populations, women etc.
- Inter American Commission on human rights – principal human right organ of the OAS. Annual reports – Reports of Special Rappourteurs, precautionary measures (request addressed to state to prevent damage to human rights ) decisions about whether cases admissable/inadmissable, list of whether states have followed recommendations, cases before the court, reports on situation in various counties Special reports – on countries and themes Cases – by year Is Minnesota better? Other place to find Inter American Commission information is in the University of Minnesota human rights library. Notes 1965 Commission given explicit permission to receive petitions from individuals – receives thousands. The Court can not receive petitions from individuals – only from States or the Commission. Therefore Commission receive petitions from individuals and decides whether they are admissible or not. If a petition is admissible and the state is at fault the Commission will serve the state with recommendations to make amends for the fault. If the State fails to act on these (or if the commission considers the case to raise interesting legal issues) it will then refer the case to the Court.
- Inter American Court of Human Rights Judgements are divided into categories. For document you get judgment in Word, pdf document. For some cases you also get a file of “related documents”. Cases are also listed by country and there is a search engine Minessota Breaks it down into 5 series (as above). Series b and D are incomplete. Nevertheless you can find these documents for some cases. The contents of Series b and d seems to differ from the documents in the “file” on the Court web site. Also annual reports and press releases. Worldlii – also carries judgments but out of date.
