A04 – REVIEW THE PROJECT HENNY FOX – NAME IN LIGHTS
How did you plan your time? The early methods I used to help with time management was an Gantt chart, I used this by finding the weeks, deadlines and planning out for what I would do within that selected week. During the first few weeks, I was unable stay on top of the tasks I had planned. For example, I had set out to do and complete the raw idea generation and start research into venues.
Continued… But as things started to drift between me and my partner, I went of track with the Gantt chart and before I knew, I had fallen behind schedule and had many outstanding tasks. Once I had sorted out the new plan, and had gone solo with the tasks I was able to sort out tasks for my something and plan things out. When I went solo, I used a different technique to manage my project, it was similar to a Gantt chart but in more depth
Continued… I would make a list of things at the beginning of the week and the task was to have them completed by the end of the week, and then set new tasks the week after.
What difficulties did you experience and how did you overcome it? There have been a number of difficulties during the duration of the extended project, the main being the change of the project. I originally set out to work with Katie Ross to produce two music events, the first being at Eccles College and the final being at Satan’s Hollow. But during the project, there was a huge breakdown in communication between us both, with the work being left unattended. This cause an unsettled atmosphere between us, causing us to go both solo and do alternative Battle of the Bands project.
Continued.. The other main difficult that I was faced was the landing of the venues, we had originally land Eccles College, but was then taken away. But we had extreme difficult landing Satan’s Hollow, first due to the amount for rental of the venue which was £100, which had to be paid another before the venue. The other major problem with Satan’s Hollow was the health and safety regulations, after constantly emailing Satan’s and asking to meet with them to discuss and see these regulations, they weren’t having any of it, so we decide to pull out.
Continued… After the change of plan and going solo and doing the online competition, everything was back on track and was looking to be a successful, the MySpace online competition of BOTBsalford was a huge hit and I managed to find the winner of Henny Fox. But when I came to filming, there were huge problems trying to land Henny Fox on a free date so that she was able to film, but due to other commitments and time, I had to go on and try and build a music video with the winner of BOTBsalford
How thorough is your research? I believe my research is thorough, I have research many different topics based around BOTB, but not just that I have also a number of different sources and not just the one of internet. I have looked at a number of different music videos on YouTube, looking at similar videos with the same sort of editing I had intentions to do. There is also a small amount of magazine research, this is from when looking through a number of music magazine, attempting to find ideas and inspirations for my music video.
Continued… I stumbled across a few articles that I found interesting and relevant to my extended project, so I decided to include them within my research of A02. I have used another method of researching, this occurred when trying to find the winner of BOTBsalford for the online competition. I did some primary research in the form of a survey. I put all the entries of the competition within this survey and posted it on the MySpace, in order for the public to vote for their winner of BOTB, I thought that it was rather successful with over 80 people voting for their favourite.
Are your final outcomes what you originally planned or are they different? My final outcome isn’t what I initially intended it to be, the original idea was to host two different music events in order to find the winner of Battle of the Bands. The two events would be recorded by numerous cameras and then edited together to make a music winner for the winner, this was also a way to display the events in a visual form. My final product is now different from my original idea, it hasn’t changed much, but it has been altered in order to be completed in time. The original idea was a huge one, one of the reasons why I decided to work with someone to help with putting on an music event.
Continued… But it didn’t happen that way, and with going solo, my projected had to be changed to something smaller that was able to be finished in time for the deadline. My extended project didn’t change into a completely different idea, it was just the format that changed. The project was meant to be two events, but it was changed to an online competition making it easier and quicker to do and also cutting out the rental of venues and any health and safety risks. Then the final outcome was changed to making a music video for the winner of the online competition. This is similar to the original idea, as we had the intention of making a music video for the winner, but the video would been the band performing at the BOTBsalford events.
What skills have you used? I have used a number of skills throughout the extended project, these ranging from project management, research, production and reflection. I think the skill that I have used most effective within the project is the reflection stage. I managed this by using a reflection journal, updating it every week writing any problems or successes within that week. It has also been extremely helpful when it has come to reviewing my project, as I am unable to look back at the week events and identify where I went wrong. Another skill I used in the project was time management,
Continued… I used it very effectively at the beginning and end of my project, using a Gantt chart to keep my process afloat but I have definitely developed my skills when it comes to reflecting on a project. I used to avoid this area of a project and not to well within it. But now due to doing a reflective journal each week, it has made doing the review much easier.
How has the audience reacted to your final outcome? The audience have took a positive turn to the project, I have managed to find this out due the questionnaires and survey monkey account I used when conducting my feedback. It has only been a short amount of time since I sent out the questionnaires, but I managed to find around 12 people to answer the questions and give their opinions for the video. There was a lot of positive notes, people really liked the editing within the film especially the way in which the video was something’s spilt into 2 and 3 different sections at the same time, they thought this was effective. There was a small amount of negative feedback, the reasons behind the public not liking the video was due to the fact that some of them found it difficult to understand the plot and some found it to cheesy at the end of the film.
