1. THE FILM INDUSTRY
THE PRESENT….AND THE FUTURE
1. How do you think the credit crunch/economic crisis might effect the film industry
and the types of film that are available to watch.
2. In your opinion, how important is it that audiences should have easy access to
‘specialist’ or alternative cinema (ie classics, world cinema etc)? Is there an
argument for subsidising the cinema release of these films or should they be
DVD-only for those who want to seek them out?
3. Digital screens enable cinemas to be much more flexible about what they show?
How do you think this technology will be used and what impact will it make on
audiences?
4. What are the consequences of piracy for the film industry?
5. If piracy and the credit crunch squeeze some film companies out of business, what
type of company do you think will be squeezed? What will be the effect of this?
6. What will happen to the film industry if downloading films (film on demand)
becomes entirely mainstream?
7. Why, generally speaking, do cinemas/on dvd/on tv?
8. What steps will cinemas take to try to retain audiences in the age of the internet
and home cinema?
9. How do you think the popularity of youtube and the trend to watch short clips on
mobile phones/ipods will influence the film industry?
10. How important is it that there should still be a British Film Industry. Would there
be a problem if all the films we watched came from overseas.
