Was Windows 10 Mobile able to grow significantly? Is it growing evenly in all the countries? What’s the most popular Windows phone out there? Do Windows enthusiasts use the same phones as the general public? Is there a country with only one Lumia in the top-5?
These are the questions we try to answer in the July edition of the AdDuplex Windows phone statistics report.

3. Data Source
This report is based on data collected from around 5,000 Windows phone apps
running AdDuplex SDK v.2 (and higher). The raw data analyzed was collected over the
day of July 20th, 2016 (UTC time) unless otherwise stated.
We have made every attempt to consolidate different reported phone model names
under their canonical retail model names, but it is possible that some of the rare model
name variations were not accounted for.
AdDuplex is the largest cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows
Store apps and games empowering developers and publishers to promote their apps
for free by helping each other. AdDuplex was established in January 2011 in Vilnius,
Lithuania. As of July 2016, more than 10,000 apps actively use AdDuplex to gain more
visibility.

5. Windows Phone Devices Worldwide
July 20th, AdDuplex
After several months of back
and forth it looks like Lumia
535 has finally cemented its
lead over 520 with a 1.2%
difference.
Lumia 640 is at number 3
now. It’s older sibling has
slipped to #4.
Lumia 640 XL and Lumia 435
have swapped places as
well.

July 20th, AdDuplex
Not many changes on the
overall manufacturer front. All
the differences from last
month are statistically
insignificant.
Unless any global
manufacturer starts cranking
Windows phones it is unlikely
we will see any movement in
this chart in the foreseeable
future.

7. OS Versions – Worldwide
July 20th, AdDuplex
The most interesting metric in
the recent months is the
growth of Windows 10
Mobile.
This month it has moved by
+1% compared to 0.5%
growth in June.
With more than 88% still on
previous versions of
Windows Phone and no clear
catalyst for Windows 10
Mobile growth in sight, it is
unclear what can accelerate
this growth in the near future.

8. OS Versions by Country
July 20th, AdDuplex
www.adduplex.com 8
We’ve looked at 8
countries for the OS
version distribution. In
most of them Windows
10 Mobile share is on
approximately global
level.
The 3 European
countries standout with
higher W10M
penetration, though.
Especially Germany.
It is important to note
that this data is based on
all apps (including
“Windows 10 only”
apps). So a local popular
Windows 10 app could
have skewed the data.

9. Windows 10 Mobile Devices Worldwide
July 20th, AdDuplex
The order of top devices
running Windows 10 Mobile
is completely identical to the
one from June.
It is possible that Lumia 550
may move up from the third
place next month, though.
Would it be to the second or
the first spot? We will see.

10. Windows 10 Phones Enthusiasts Use
July 20th, AdDuplex
Let’s look at what phones
Windows enthusiasts use.
This data is from AppRaisin –
a Windows app and game
news app aimed primarily at
enthusiasts.
As you can see enthusiasts
are very different from the
general public – new high-
end Lumias are near the top
of the chart, while 550 and
650 didn’t even make it into
top-10.

11. Windows Phone Devices - Japan
July 20th, AdDuplex
One country with historically
low adoption of Windows
Phone had the most activity
with new Windows 10 Mobile
hardware.
This definitely warranted a look
at Japan.
The daily usage there is still
low, so we had to take new
install data since late June until
now for this chart.
As you can see the picture is
very different from the one you
get from pretty much any other
country in the world.
There’s only one Lumia in the
top-5 and the rest is all the new
phones we’ve heard about, but
haven’t seen in the wild.

12. Windows phone Manufacturers - Japan
July 20th, AdDuplex
Obviously, the manufacturer
chart for Japan is very
different as well.
While Microsoft is still the
biggest there, its market share
is less than 60%.
Now if only this could be
replicated worldwide while at
least maintaining Microsoft’s
absolute numbers…
