• A Reading Book
On this day, the students will start off by reading the assigned material. It
should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to read the story. After the
story has been read, the students will then be given a short quiz on the
material they had just read. The quiz will take approximately 5 to 10
minutes to be completed. After the quiz has been given, the students will
go over their assigned spelling words that go with the reading material, and
they will go over their vocabulary words as well. The students will write out
each vocabulary word, its definition, the number of syllables, and they will
have to break the word into parts. The students will also have to write their
spelling words 3x each, so they will have practice spelling them correctly.
Both of these assignments should take approximately 30 minutes. This will
conclude the reading portion of the daily curriculum.
On this day, the students will start off by quickly reviewing the reading material.
This should take no more than 5 minutes. After the quick review, the students
will be given a grammar worksheet to work on. This worksheet will help to
enhance their grammatical skills. The students will be given about 10 to 15
minutes to work on the worksheet then we will go over it as a class. The
students will switch papers and grade each other’s work. This should take no
longer than about 10 minutes to complete. These papers will not be taken
up, but they will be given an additional worksheet that they are to take home
and work on that will be graded. After the grammar exercise, the student will
get a power writing assignment. They will be given a topic, and they will have to
write an essay consisting of 5 paragraphs. They will be allowed to work on this
for the remaining 30 minutes of class. If the students do not finish in this time
period, they will have to take the assignment home and complete it. This will
end the reading portion of the daily curriculum.
On this day, students will turn in the homework assignment from the
previous day. After the assignment(s) has been taken up, the students will
then get ready for their story exam. Their exam on the story they had read
should take no more than 30 minutes, and that might even be too much
time. After the exam, the students will be given a new writing assignment.
They will be given a new Power Writing assignment. The students will be
allowed to work on this assignment for the remaining 30 minutes. If they do
not finish, the students must take it home and finish. This will conclude the
reading portion of the daily curriculum.
On this day, the Power Writing assignment will be turned in. The students
will be given about 5 minutes to look over their vocabulary words then they
will be given their vocabulary exam. This should take about 15 to 20
minutes. After the exam, the students will be some grammar worksheets to
work on. These should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. When
these are completed, we will check them in class. Then the students will be
given a worksheet to take home to work on. Next, the students will be
given their daily Power Writing topic. They will be given about 15 minutes to
work on these. They will be homework if they are not finished in class. The
last couple of minutes the students will be free to ask question about
anything they do not understand, and then this will conclude the reading
portion of the daily curriculum.
On this day, the students will begin by turning in the reading/grammar
homework that was assigned the day before. After they have turned in their
homework assignment(s), they will be given about 15 minutes to review
their spelling words. After they have reviewed their spelling words, the
students will be given their spelling exam. This should take about 30
minutes at the most. Then the spelling exams will be taken up. For the
remaining 15 minutes the students will get to ask any questions they
have, or they can read their Accelerated Reader books. This will complete
the reading portion of the daily curriculum.
Days 6-10 are repeats of days 1-5. Basically the same
things are repeated each week just with different
stories.

  • 5. On this day, the students will start off by reading the assigned material. It should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to read the story. After the story has been read, the students will then be given a short quiz on the material they had just read. The quiz will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to be completed. After the quiz has been given, the students will go over their assigned spelling words that go with the reading material, and they will go over their vocabulary words as well. The students will write out each vocabulary word, its definition, the number of syllables, and they will have to break the word into parts. The students will also have to write their spelling words 3x each, so they will have practice spelling them correctly. Both of these assignments should take approximately 30 minutes. This will conclude the reading portion of the daily curriculum.
  • 6. On this day, the students will start off by quickly reviewing the reading material. This should take no more than 5 minutes. After the quick review, the students will be given a grammar worksheet to work on. This worksheet will help to enhance their grammatical skills. The students will be given about 10 to 15 minutes to work on the worksheet then we will go over it as a class. The students will switch papers and grade each other’s work. This should take no longer than about 10 minutes to complete. These papers will not be taken up, but they will be given an additional worksheet that they are to take home and work on that will be graded. After the grammar exercise, the student will get a power writing assignment. They will be given a topic, and they will have to write an essay consisting of 5 paragraphs. They will be allowed to work on this for the remaining 30 minutes of class. If the students do not finish in this time period, they will have to take the assignment home and complete it. This will end the reading portion of the daily curriculum.
