Although some SIMD and SIMT instruction sets include double-precision arithmetic and bitwise operations, there are no instructions dedicated to evaluating elementary functions like trigonometric functions in double precision. Thus, these functions have to be evaluated one by one using an FPU or using a software library. However, traditional algorithms for evaluating these elementary functions involve heavy use of conditional branches and/or table look-ups, which are not suitable for SIMD computation. In this paper, efficient methods are proposed for evaluating the sine, cosine, arc tangent, exponential and logarithmic functions in double precision without table look-ups, scattering from, or gathering into SIMD registers, or conditional branches. We implemented these methods using the Intel SSE2 instruction set to evaluate their accuracy and speed. The results showed that the average error was less than 0.67 ulp, and the maximum error was 6 ulps. The computation speed was faster than the FPUs on Intel Core 2 and Core i7 processors.

Data may be organized in many different ways; the logical or mathematical model of a particular organization of data is called "Data Structure". The choice of a particular data model depends on two considerations: It must be rich enough in structure to reflect the actual relationships of the data in the real world. The structure should be simple enough that one can effectively process the data when necessary. Data Structure Operations The particular data structure that one chooses for a given situation depends largely on the nature of specific operations to be performed. The following are the four major operations associated with any data structure: i. Traversing : Accessing each record exactly once so that certain items in the record may be processed. ii. Searching : Finding the location of the record with a given key value, or finding the locations of all records which satisfy one or more conditions. iii. Inserting : Adding a new record to the structure. iv. Deleting : Removing a record from the structure. Primitive and Composite Data Types Primitive Data Types are Basic data types of any language. In most computers these are native to the machine's hardware. Some Primitive data types are: Integer

The past few years have marked the start of a historic transition from sequential to parallel computation. The necessity to write parallel programs is increasing as systems are getting more complex while processor speed increases are slowing down. Current parallel programming uses low-level programming constructs like threads and explicit synchronization using locks to coordinate thread execution. Parallel programs written with these constructs are difficult to design, program and debug. Also locks have many drawbacks which make them a suboptimal solution. One such drawback is that locks should be only used to enclose the critical section of the parallel-processing code. If locks are used to enclose the entire code then the performance of the code drastically decreases. Software Transactional Memory (STM) is a promising new approach to programming shared-memory parallel processors. It is a concurrency control mechanism that is widely considered to be easier to use by programmers than locking. It allows portions of a program to execute in isolation, without regard to other, concurrently executing tasks. A programmer can reason about the correctness of code within a transaction and need not worry about complex interactions with other, concurrently executing parts of the program. If STM is used to enclose the entire code then the performance of the code is the same as that of the code in which STM is used to enclose the critical section only and is far better than code in which locks have been used to enclose the entire code. So STM is easier to use than locks as critical section does not need to be identified in case of STM. This paper shows the concept of writing code using Software Transactional Memory (STM) and the performance comparison of codes using locks with those using STM. It also shows why the use of STM in parallel-processing code is better than the use of locks.

Abstract Data Types (a) Explain briefly what is meant by the term abstract data type (ADT). Give two reasons why use of ADTs is good programming practice. (b) Write out a signature, or interface, that defines the operations of a stack ADT. (c) Consider a string of characters of the form ... (.( ... ).) ... where ... indicates an arbitrary sequence of characters (except for parentheses), (.( indicates an arbitrary number (one or more) of opening parentheses, and similarly ).) indicates an arbitrary number of closing parentheses. Using only the stack abstraction operations defined above, write pseudocode for an algorithm that determines, using a stack, whether or not the number of closing parentheses is the same as the number of opening parentheses. You may assume the existence of a function read(str,ch) that reads the next character of string str into ch. You may also assume that you can invoke a function reportFail, that will cause termination with failure, and similarly, reportSuccess causes termination with a success indication. Further, you may also assume that you can call a function newStack(S) to create a new empty stack S, and eos(str) that returns false when you reach the end of the string. Solution (a) Explain briefly what is meant by the term abstract data type (ADT). Give two reasons why use of ADTs is good programming practice. A data type is a collection of values and a set of operations on those values. That collection and these operations form a mathematical construct that may be implemented with the use of a particular hardware or software data structure. The term abstract data type (ADT) refers to the basic mathematical concept that defines the data type. We have discussed four different implementations of the list data structure. In case of implementation of the list with the use of an array, the size of the array gives difficulty if increased. To avoid this, we allocate memory dynamically for nodes before connecting these nodes with the help of pointers. For this purpose, we made a singly linked list and connected it with the next pointer to make a chain. Moving forward is easy but going back is a difficult task. To overcome this problem, we made a doubly linked list using prev andnext pointers. With the help of these pointers, we can move forward and backward very easily. Now we face another problem that the prev pointer of first node and the next pointer of the last node are NULL. Therefore, we have to be careful in case of NULL pointers. To remove the NULL pointers, we made the circular link list by connecting the first and last node. The program employing the list data structure is not concerned with its implementation. We do not care how the list is being implemented whether through an array, singly linked list, doubly linked list or circular linked list. It has been witnessed that in these four implementations of the list, the interface remained the same i.e. it implements the same methods like add, get, next, start a.

There is a so much happening to improve the quality of automation in data center networking that it's best not to get hung up on whether it falls into the "hot topics." Modelling, automated verification, the use of programming and EDA methodologies applied to computer networking, particularly in the data center, are all going to be very valuable, and very quickly.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry. The presentation explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) from its inception to its current status in the modern world. The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society. The development from theoretical concepts to real-world applications illustrates both the potential benefits and the challenges that come with integrating advanced technologies into everyday life. The ongoing discussion about AI ethics and regulation underscores the importance of managing these technologies responsibly to maximize their their benefits while minimizing potential harms.
