To Measure is to know… (Lord Kelvin)
Think of MKH as Clearinghouse for all things related to measurement
The requirement to measure things more accurately, faster and at smaller dimensions is now pervasive throughout science and industry.
Examples of Cost Savings: -Software errors due to ineffective testing cost the US $60 billion annually. -Authentication by impacted users: In 2007, the US semiconductor industry spent approximately $9 billion on measurement equipment. Measurement challenges were a key barrier to continued miniaturization.
NIST is the nation’s NMI: Promote awareness of critical measurement needs Identify strategies to bolster solution providers Foster collaboration encourage industry to collaborate in USMS to identify and prioritize measurement needs
Initial assessment was a team effort (private sector, academia, NIST, standards organizations) 15 NIST-Industry workshops 2005-2006
