On day 1 of the objective, students were introduced to the theory of malleable intelligence. They participated in a warm up discussion about chimpanzees learning sign language. They then learned about primatologist Jane Goodall and read an article about malleable intelligence. Students completed an anticipation guide before the article. They formed groups to create a concept map of the main ideas in the article. Each group then presented on an example of malleable intelligence from the article, such as new neurons or learning languages. Finally, students reflected individually on what they learned about growing their intelligence through effort.
