Prototype and Test:
School to Work Transition

Problem Statement
A recently passed mechanical
engineering graduate who is
innovative, creative and eager to
utilize his academic skills as an
important member of the team
needs a way to change himself as
well as others to make organization
better because free mindset of
college students and traditional view
of the company employees need to
be changed.
Three Best Ideas:
 The most Practical Idea: Change in course structure
 The most disruptive idea: Simulation training of organizations
during academics
 Favorite Idea: Time Management Training
Major problem that recently passed graduates face is the time
management. They are not able to differentiate b/w professional and
personal life. So there is an urgent need of simulation training of
organization during academics. Student must be aware of organization
rules, regulations, stress, discipline, time bound targets etc so that they do
not feel any extra pressure when they joining the organization.
Old employees of the organization must be told about the free mindset of
students so that they help them instead of pressurizing them.
Prototype and Test 1: Simulation Training during
Academics
I interviewed or I would rather say I
interacted with 4 college students of
mechanical engineering.
I tried to simulate an organization
environment to them for approximate 2
hours:
1. 30 minutes for morning meeting
2. 30 minutes for Supplier/contractor
meeting
3. 30 minutes for the mail writing
4. 30 minutes for time bound target
(analysis of small data and prepare a
small presentation on it.)
After that I collected the feedback of
students as follow:
I also interacted with the 5 recently passed
mechanical graduates who joined an
organization, and explained them my idea of
simulation training during academics.
I asked them for their feedback on the idea
as they had faced this transition and would
help me in improving the idea.
I also requested one of them to join the
simulation training that I conducted, to
observe and to provide his inputs for
improvement.
So finally me with one of my friend and that
recently passed mechanical graduate
conducted a simulation training of
organization environment
College Students: Recently passed college graduate:
Prototype and Test 1: Simulation Training during
Academics
Students’ Feedback:
Student 1: I never faced such stressful
environment so training would help me in
improving my schedule.
Student 2: I always thought that job would
be a fun as we going to get much money,
freedom but here situation is quite
opposite.
Student 3: I enjoyed the training but still
confused about the purpose.
Student 4: I enjoyed the training. It was
fun.
Recently passed mechanical graduate’s
feedback:
Simulation training was a good concept but
still a lot of improvements are required in it.
Like:
1. Longer span of training
2. More time bound targets training
3. Clear picture of training objectives.
Idea of simulation training is quite good.
College Students: Recently passed college graduate:
Prototype 1: Analysis
What Worked:
• Students can get a feel of
organizational stress through the
simulation training.
• It would help them to change their
free mindset.
• It would help them to be more
disciplined and well organized
What could be improved:
• Longer duration of training like 5-6
days.
• Better simulation of organizational
stress like full day training.
Questions:
• Are college faculties going to support
such simulation trainings.
• Is company HRs going to support such
training
Ideas:
• College faculty should conduct such
simulation trainings.
• Internships during academics.
Prototype and Test 2: Time Management Training
After simulation training I interacted with
students to make them learn how to mange
their time so that they can differentiate
between professional and personal life in
future.
Feedback of students:
Time management training is quite useful
and they will try to incorporate it in their
college life too.
College Students: Recently passed college graduate:
• Major problem that a recently passed
college graduate faces is of Time
management. So its better to provide
such training at an early stage ie in
school level itself.
• Company HR must help recently passed
college students to make them learn
how to manage their time.
Prototype 2: Analysis
What Worked:
• Students can develop time
management skills at early stage.
• It would help them to tolerate the
organizational stress .
• It would help them to be more
disciplined and well organized.
What could be improved:
• Longer duration of training like 5-6
days.
Questions:
None.
Ideas:
• College faculty should conduct such
time management trainings.
• Company HR must conduct such
training of employees.

Prototype and Test 2: Time Management Training After simulation training I interacted with students to make them learn how to mange their time so that they can differentiate between professional and personal life in future. Feedback of students: Time management training is quite useful and they will try to incorporate it in their college life too. College Students: Recently passed college graduate: • Major problem that a recently passed college graduate faces is of Time management. So its better to provide such training at an early stage ie in school level itself. • Company HR must help recently passed college students to make them learn how to manage their time.

Prototype 2: Analysis What Worked: • Students can develop time management skills at early stage. • It would help them to tolerate the organizational stress . • It would help them to be more disciplined and well organized. What could be improved: • Longer duration of training like 5-6 days. Questions: None. Ideas: • College faculty should conduct such time management trainings. • Company HR must conduct such training of employees.
