VoteReport began as an idea to build software to analyze social media discussions around elections. Andrew Turner founded the project and worked with engineers to develop platforms and interfaces to collect, analyze, and share election-related data posted on Twitter. The platforms were launched, scaled up, and iterated based on feedback to create participatory democracy and allow analysis of discussions around elections and other topics. The project cultivated a community to continue developing communities and applications around open civic data.
