Social Media and Music
Social Media and Music is merging with how
artists are marketing themselves. Fan
interaction and Social Media Promotions are
becoming the most important thing for both
established and up and coming artists. This
slideshow will be going over some of these
aspects and what it is like to be a user and
interact with artists using these formats.
The Artist


The artist I decided to engage with operates
under the label LapFox Trax and controls all of
the aliases within said label. Renard (the artist)
uses these aliases to split his music into genres
almost to give a better visual and emotional feel
to the music created. Some examples are
Kitsune^2 and The Quick Brown Fox. Generally
the music that is produced is of the electronic
music genre but it varies very greatly
depending on the alias.
Social Media Presence


The social media and online presence of
Renard and LapFox Trax is huge. He routinely
interacts with fans and uploads blog videos with
updates on both releases and personal
matters. Renard mainly uses Facebook,
Twitter, and Tumblr but his works have created
many communities across a vast number of
forums and websites. Almost all of his music is
exclusively released online with only limited
physical runs of CDs being occasional sold.
Alias Presence


Renard possesses a unique trait with the music
created as it all features a very personalized
alias to go along with it. These are not just
simply characters that are being used as album
art or promotions. These are very important to
how the music Renard creates is spread. Not
only does it provide a unique personal aspect to
the work created, but it also spawns a new
community of people who create fan art and
fandom about his creations.

alias to go along with it. These are not just

art or promotions. These are very important to

enjoys what Renard produces and interacts in a

Renard is also great at interacting with fans
outside of social media on various sites like
Twitch.tv . He is an avid streamer who often
streams various games being speedrun or
broken. Sometimes even just blog streams are
common.



There are many online communities that have
sprung up from the work of Renard that spawn
across many different sites. Two of the main
sites being DeviantArt for fan art of aliases and
discussion and sites such as Reddit that can
facilitate a user base and provide a means to
communicate and share links.
Physical Space


Renard does not generally promote a physical
product as most of the content produced is put
online onto sites like bandcamp. Occasionally
some physical releases are created like albums
or signed posters but these are generally
limited in run to around 500 or so. Sometimes
less when it comes to signed merchandise or
smaller releases.
Problems with Social Media
Interactions


There are many base problems that can be had
with operating any sort of social media account
in regards to public interaction. It has to be
managed very carefully as since everything is
online, it's not like mistakes will be forgiven
easily.
Privacy Issues


If an artist has such an open life to the internet
then problems of Privacy can arise. Renard is
going through this right now as accusations of
various wrong doings have been made on
various social media sites. As of currently most
of the fandom of LapFox Trax and Renard is in
chaos due to the current circumstances.
