Proposal Brief Librarians propose a one hour staff development meeting at Clearview North Middle School Provide teachers information on various Creative Commons licenses Online Sources for images with clear licensing details (Creative Commons, Flickr, Google) Standard integration with both Common Core Language Arts standards and Standards for the 21st-Century Learner

6. Goals Empower teachers to instruct, evaluate, select, organize and present images responsibly 100% of teachers will understand Creative Commons licenses and how to use images appropriately Students will no longer randomly search images on Google with no regard for responsible use
7. Example Teachers will show students how to use Creative Commons Guidelines, Flickr and other worksheets/materials from workshop Teachers can access and use Flickr to find specific images Students will learn and practice responsible methods using Creative Commons in their journalistic unit.
8. Activity Librarians will review the 6 different Creative Commons licenses Access Creative Commons website and discuss various search image options such as Flickr and Google images Teachers will follow directions under handout

Preparing 3 months ahead: Discuss with principals about meeting with 7th grade district Language Art teachers 2 months ahead: Schedule computer lab in central location 1 month ahead: Collaborate with district librarians to discuss and create workshop lessons/materials 3 weeks: contact 7th grade Language Arts teachers via e-mail
12. Week of: Remind teachers about workshop and encourage them to attend via e-mail 4 days before: Make copies of handout and activities. Make sure that all computers are working properly in computer lab. Review agenda and lesson Day of: Turn on all computers. Check Creative Commons link. Inform school security of visiting teachers. Set out materials for lesson
14. Facilitator Responsibilities Approval from principals- Meeting time/budget/teacher release from staff development day for 2 hours. All- Contact individual principals for approval, plan workshop through Skype and Google docs, and contact individual teachers for reminder.
15. Assessment Check teacher’s research to determine if they associated the correct pictures and meanings with Creative Common licenses Have teachers fill out questionnaires. Librarians will review comments and observation to determine success/changes Maintain communication with teachers during their unit to evaluate any additional support Collect data of final student products during team meetings to determine workshop impact

Conclusion Teachers will understand Creative Commons licenses and how to search for images on the internet for proper use Teachers will instruct their students accordingly on proper image use for all projects going forward Students will gain ethical image use and practice skills in their final unit projects
