New advances in orthodontics allow us to provide several
alternatives to get your smile in better alignment.
9. What Is Six Month Smiles?
Six Month Smiles® is a modern twist on tried-and-true orthodontics. There is little debate
within the orthodontic community that braces are the most widely used and most effective
method to give patients straight, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile. Six Month Smiles has
taken the best aspects of braces and modified the treatment and the materials to give
adults a common-sense, cosmetic solution that fits your lifestyle. Here is what makes Six
Month Smiles so innovative …
Average treatment times of only six months
Six Month Smiles Lucid-Lok™ clear brackets and tooth-colored wires are barely
visible
Use of braces has shown provide the most conservative and predictable final
result
Six Month Smiles Patient Tray Kits™ ensure that your appointments are fast and
comfortable
Low forces and short overall treatment times increase
comfort, safety, and hygiene
Six Month Smiles is typically less expensive
than traditional braces, aligner therapy, or veneers
21. How can teeth be straightened in only six months?
The Six Month Smiles technique employs the latest technology and techniques
in dentistry to move your teeth quickly and safely. The key components of the
treatment are the use of special nickel titanium wires and a primary focus of
moving the teeth that show when you smile.
Will I have metal brackets and wires?
No! Six Month Smiles dentists use tooth-colored braces that are barely visible.
The wires are tooth-colored as well. These are nothing like metal braces!
How are Six Month Smiles braces more comfortable than regular
braces?
Six Month Smiles braces use low force to move teeth more comfortably. Many
people think that the accelerated treatment means simply “tightening”
regular braces to get the teeth moving, but that is not true. Six Month Smiles
utilizes standard orthodontic mechanics, but with an emphasis on the cosmetic
appearance of your teeth rather than the position of your bite.
42. What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell
you're wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made
with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective.
Why would I want it?
Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want
while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with
no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you
spend less time in your doctor's office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view
your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will
look when your treatment is complete.
How does it work?
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and
floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by
little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Michaelson has
prescribed. You'll visit our office about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is
progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 12-17 months and the average number of
aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
52. What is an Inman Aligner?
The Inman Aligner is a simple removable appliance used to align
front teeth quickly and safely. It's ideal as a stand alone treatment
or to pre-align teeth prior to further cosmetic options such as bonding
or minimal veneers.
How does it work?
The Inman Aligner has Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows that gently oppose each other,
guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over a very large range of movement, which
is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly. The image below shows the squeeze effect of the two aligner bows on
the front teeth. The inner bow pushes forwards, while the outer bow pulls back on the front teeth.
How long is the treatment with the Inman Aligner?
Most cases are completed within 6-18 weeks. Your Inman Aligner dentist will give you a realistic guide of what to
expect. For suitable cases, the Inman Aligner is usually much faster than alternative orthodontic techniques.
Do I have to treat both upper and lower teeth with Inman Aligners?
It is not always necessary to treat both arches with Inman Aligners. Whether you will need both arches treated is
determined by an exam .
How will I keep my teeth in position once I complete my treatment with Inman
Aligners?
Once your teeth are in position you will need to wear retainers at night. Typically we will bond (glue) a discreet thin
bar behind the lower front 6 teeth to hold them in position and then make a set of clear removable retainers for you
to wear at night. Retainers will need to be remade every 3-5 years or if they are lost.
