Students will be completing several activities related to the
novel The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary.
Here you will find activities to complete before, while, and
after you read. There are also other activities to complete
that go beyond what you have read as well as about what
you have read. Once these activities are completed there
are some fun online activities as well as a quiz that you will
need to take. Some activities will be completed online and
others will be completed and then printed for accountability.
Be sure to check out the rubrics to make sure you are
completing each activity properly.
The Mouse and the Motorcycle
3. •Before you read The Mouse and the Motorcycle, you will need to complete
A KWL chart about mice. Use what you already know and any questions you
have. Once you have completed the book you can go back and finish the “L”
portion of the KWL chart. By clicking on the highlighted word, you can get to the
graphic organizer you will be required to use. When you get to the graphic
organizer you will have to copy and paste the page into Microsoft word and
then you may type your information on the page. Once we have completed the
book, you will have to print the page, so remember to save it each time you
work on it!
•You will also need to complete a questioning web before you begin reading the
book. Take a look at the cover and read the back . Come up with some thick,
meaningful questions. Go to the question web, copy and paste the web into
Microsoft Word and then complete your web. When you finish your web, print it
for me.
Before you read
4. While you are reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle,
you will be keeping track of words that you may not know
the meaning of. You will be using the clues within the
story to infer the meaning of these words. This is a
vocabulary activity, and by clicking on the highlighted
word, you can get to the graphic organizer you will be
required to use. You will need to fill in the unknown word,
what you think it means, and what helped you infer the
meaning of the word. When you get to the graphic
organizer you will have to copy and paste the page into
Microsoft word and then you may type your information
on the page. Once we have completed the book, you will
have to print the page, so remember to save it each time
you work on it!
While you read
5. Once you have finished reading The Mouse and the
Motorcycle
you will need to complete 2 activities.
•For activity number 1, go to

and complete 3 trading cards. One card needs to be for Ralph, one
for Keith, and one for a character of your choice. Use as many details
from the story as you can. You will need to print off each trading card.
•For activity number 2, go to

you will need to complete a character, conflict, resolution, and setting
graphic organizer. Each organizer must be completed with complete
sentences, and details from the story. You will need to follow the
directions on the Read, Write, Think site and print out each organizer

after you have finished.
6. There are 2 activities to complete that go beyond what you have
read in the book. These are more creative activities, so please
think outside of the box.
•You will be writing a letter to Ralph persuading him to live with
you. You will need to give him 3 good reasons why he should
live with you and you will need to back each reason with
evidence. Go to the following site and complete the persuasion
graphic organizer to help you get started on your letter to
Ralph. Once you have completed the organizer, please print it
out. Then you will need to type a persuasive letter to Ralph
using Micro Soft Word. Please print this out as well.

• You will also need to create at least 2 acrostic poems over
characters of your choice from the reading. You must describe
the characters’ personality or actions through this poems. You
must use sentences or phrases. No single word descriptions.
