2. The Distribution Aspects of
Caleidoscopio
• It is a low budget movie needing a niche audience.
• Using unknown actors in the production
• A limited amount of money in order to create the film
• Targeting an audience which enjoys watching psychological thrillers
• In terms of age there is a certification of over 16 because the
product involves crime scenes and violence, sexual acts, etc.
• The movie is full of suspense by having a lot of cliff hanger
moments, also heart racing extracts that would make the audience
pay attention to the sequence of actions and would let them sink in
the story.
• There is no elaborate technology involved such as IMAX or 3D
effects because of the limited funding.
3. Relevant Movies
• In terms of the audience’s preferences there
are similar movies that had the same audience
that we are aming for, movies such as
Colombiana, Man on Fire, The Game, Salt.
4. Who Would Distribute Caleidoscopio?
The company that would distribute our film is Vertigo
Films. They are a small, British film production and
distribution company based in London. This is purely
because a UK production company like Vertigo Films
would involve a smaller budget, at an average of 500,000
thousand just like Vertigo did with Monsters, instead of
the US production company which is averaging at more
than $60,000,000 per film. Having a smaller budget is not
necessarily a bad thing as thrillers do not have to be
flashy with gadgets or fast cars, they can instead be made
well with a small budget and could actually be more
thrilling with a more simple set as this allows the viewer
to focus more on the camera angles and the creativity
behind the thriller. Vertigo Films also focuses on
international sales maybe more than other UK Production
companies, because of this they would be able to get our
thriller all around the world efficiently, therefore creating
a larger fan base.
5. Other Marketing Techniques
UK Productions are also less likely to have famous
actors involved, which for a suspenseful thriller is ideal
as having a famous actor could distract from the
storyline or maybe detract some from watching the
film if they did not like that actor. A thriller would work
better in a simple location, like London, rather than a
glamorous location, for example, Malibu. We would
have to have two or three different companies coming
together to finance the film with Vertigo Films being
the main financier. Another reason for picking Vertigo
Films to distribute my thriller is that they have
experience, for example in 2011 Vertigo Films
produced and distributed a thriller/horror directed by
Richard Parry. The company’s mission is to create and
distribute commercially driven independent cinema
and since inception it has produced 28 films and
distributed a further 35.They are a low budget
company which is realistic meaning they would be
more likely to fund our thriller. Traditionally British
distribution is UK based and distribution could then be
sold on for the rest of the world.
