There has been and still is an incalculable hype about the Internet of Things or IoT. It has surged to an irrevocable level. More than 50 billion things are expected to be connected by the year 2020. The idea of globally interconnected devices and things emerged with the RFID intervention and ever since it has conceptualized myriad of heterogeneous objects interacting with physical environment. So we can say in a way IoT is rendering to objects eyes and voice besides other senses of abilities to think and to react. Mobility: Talking about mobility, none of us are oblivious about the essence of technology the mobile devices and apps have created in the 21st century. ‘It is estimated that the number of mobile-connected devices will overshoot the world’s total population by the end of 2015.’ “IoT a boon or a curse for mobile domain?” Mobility is considered as the power-player pertaining to the future of Internet of Things, revolutionizing all the aspects of our lives. Big Data: Another vital aspect hovering relating to IoT is the big data. Nowadays merely collecting data isn’t enough, the data must be processed and analysed to glean insights. And simultaneously these insights should be capable enough to drive actionable steps. Each passing day millions of objects are being created, uploaded, connected and being used but the bigger challenge is to sustain the immense volume and variety of input data. Traditional analytics system is no longer able to cope with such surge of data. Cloud: In this era cloud adaptation has become mainstream. But the thought constantly hammering at the back of our minds is ‘What would be the ramifications of IoT ‘cloudification’. ‘93 percent of organizations surveyed are running applications or experimenting with infrastructure-as-a-service; 82 percent of enterprises have a hybrid cloud strategy (up from 74 percent in 2014).’ So it’s a head hammering call to make… “Will cloudification of IoT prove to be beneficial or lethal?”. Despite of all the complications and endless questions the past few years have witnessed exemplary advancements in the field of innovation and technology towards IoT. These shifts have been made mostly in the domains of mobility, big data and cloud for Internet of Things. The convergence of these three domains will lead to the emergence of a new platform for the enterprises to flourish and it will provide a much better integrated view of the IT architecture.
