Question 2
1. How effect is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
2. • Firstly, the ways in which all of our texts
interconnect with one another is that they all
feature shots of the stalker, who is portrayed
as the villain within the film. Our trailer
features OTS shots of the stalker and the
spectator never sees the face of the stalker to
add more anticipation and tension. Our film
poster uses the stalker as it’s main image and
so does the front cover of the magazine. This
image simply can explain the genre and plot of
the film from the one photograph we have
used.
3. The burgundy red that features throughout the
three texts represents the tradition conventions of
the horror genre. This red symbolising blood. The
repetition of the red indicates to the audience that
the element of danger is involved and even lust
from the craving obsession the stalker wants over
the female protagonist.
The colour of black has been
used also in the three texts as it
is simple, relates to the horror
genre but it also doesn’t
overpower anything or take
away any of the fear produced.
4. In the three texts that we have produced we have altered the colouring of the imagery
used. Due to only being able to film and photograph imagery at times where natural
sunlight was available and not very much darkness, we used the tools of Photoshop and
iMovie to help us with this. Darkening the scenes in the trailer and photographs taken
the images now all appear to have the same lighting and relate to each other. The
darkening of the lighting adds more trepidation and fear which is suitable for the genre.
For our two ancillary
texts we did decide to
just use the stalker as
the main feature as the
female being stalked
appears heavily in the
trailer. Therefore, the
audience know in the
trailer that she is being
stalked and from the
poster and magazine
cover, we reveal who she
is being stalked by in
more detail but the
identity is still concealed.
