The section Model used as digital teaching tool is clubbed by the acronym

Let me examine some of the facets of the above in a nutshell with regard

to the tool that I would use for my future instructional strategies.

The selection of a 2.0 web tool for my instructional course has been quite

easy. Few years before, I did use several Learning Management Systems; tried

to switch over my preferences from wiziq.com to www.webex.com,

   www.moodle.com, www.dimdim.com, www.blackboard.com,

www.softchalk.com and others. However, I have always landed myself on the

portal, www.wiziq.com due to several key factors.

Here are few notable ones, analysed based on SECTIONS (Bates, 2005).

           What do Students need?

The purpose of the selection of the tool was not technology, but for

students. Any student could login and search for the topic from the search box.

Apart from it the link (url is provided) via mail by the instructor.
Project Proposal for Digital Presentation 4

 How Easy and reliable is it to use ?

Students can upload the lecture, unlike a heavy You tube file! Instant chat

help additionally and do not hinder a students’ willingness to enter a virtual

classroom. Learners can go into a class in invisible mode, chat, ask questions

and re-log again into the class. The recorded session can be viewed up teen

times until controlled by the instructor. The same capacity exists in

   www.moodle.com

 Big question...How much it costs?

The costliest aspect is the time spent into it by the student. Rest is free. No log in

or subscription or room entry unless specified by the instructor.

In fact, I have hundreds of my lectures and tutorials free on public domain.

 How vocal is it for Teaching and Learning?

We instructor have to work a little more.

Make a lecture plan, schedule, prepare slide show, and incorporate videos and

animations. Label each of the lectures, upload them and store in the Content

library. I have more than 200 of them saved for last 5 years! As and when I need to

teach a particular class, I incorporate the lectures in my class room. Learners have

the freedom to view the slides by themselves, go to a blackboard or a whiteboard

or coloured board and solve, write or question.

 Is it an Interactive 2.0 web tool?

It is. Being a 2.0 web tool, each of the students could be assessed and talked to

separately. Objectionable remarks can be omitted and students could be barred

without the knowledge of the rest of the learners. Is that not healthy for the

classroom? And the recorded session could be placed for public (open for all) or

private domain (selected users).

 What the Organisational issues we have to face?

The wiziq team has no issues with regard to the contents in a classroom. The

instructor and the learners have all the rights to their opinion and copyrighted

contents shared during the session. However, it takes an hour (for the server) to

upload the content after a session is over.

 Novelty is understanding. Does it have any?

The authorgen technologies Ltd has been inching towards success and has been

here since 2005. The other products include www.authorSTREAM.com apart

from www.wiziq.com
Project Proposal for Digital Presentation 6

 Speed is the modern technological entity. How good is that?

The working speed is great! The portal needs no downloading except for the plug-

in software - flash. An instructor could take about 10 minutes to download a heavy

file of 20 MB. However it is one time job. Instant down load of files, doc or PPt or

a video also takes a couple of minutes depending on the size. Additionally, one

may provide a link to bypass the trouble of loading and projecting a file in a

session.

Conclusion

Several soft wares mentioned in the article also delivers the same good. However,

it is the choice of the presenter and his audience. How well done, is the prime issue

in a learning process and that is what I seek for.
