4. When he completed
secondary school,
he became a
teacher.
After three years of
teaching, he
entered seminary
training and was
ordained a priest in
1930.
6. He served as a curate and parish priest through
the 1930s, becoming a chaplain and serving in the
RAAF during WW2.
7. He was posted to Scarborough
as parish priest in 1946.
8. When the Parish of St Bernadette’s began,
Scarborough was a sleepy little fishing village.
Many people living in Scarborough had jobs
related to the fishing and crabbing industries.
Mons pioneered Scarborough with his love of
God.
10. Mons built the parish church, St Bernadette’s primary school, De La
Salle, Soubirous and Frawley Colleges. He knew these were the
best ways to make life rewarding and meaningful for his people.
11. The cricket nets and classrooms built for De La Salle
College, are still enjoyed by students of SCCC,
Frawley Campus today.
12. Mons reminded everyone to
“Put your problems before God
and an answer would come.”
He always said that for those who
prayed and praised God…
‘It’s 95% God’s work and 5% your own.’
He was known as…
A Man of Prayer
13. Mons encouraged
prayer in the home and
for families to say the
Rosary.
He gave every family in
the parish Rosary
books.
He had great devotion
for Mary.
18. In 1973, one of the schools,
Frawley College, was named after him.
19. At his funeral in 2002, young people wore the uniforms
of all his former schools and SCCC students formed a
guard of honour for the man who had built their college
and given it his spirit of prayer and working to the best of
one’s ability.
20.
21. At SCCC we build on the foundation
of Mons Frawley’s vision:
May we be generous serving those in need
And always act with strength and gentleness.
Let us always seek the light of Christ.
Amen.
23. The Frawley Prayer
God our Father,
We believe that
through our baptism
we really and truly
become your children,
loved and cherished by you,
24. and that we share
in your own very divine life.
Help us then to be loving
and obedient children,
so that each day we may draw
closer to you
in love and service.
25. Then, in spite of the sorrows
of this world,
we will enjoy a real peace
and happiness in this life
and eternal marvellous happiness
in the life of Heaven forever.
26. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Mary Help of Christians,
Pray for us.

Mons is a contraction of Monsignor, which is an honorary title given to priests by the Vatican for many years of outstanding service. Mons Frawley, as he was affectionately remembered, received the honour in 1959 and the award of OBE followed in 1996. He was the Parish Priest for 37 years until his retirement.
