2. ½ yard Fabric (I used cotton, but any would
work) in your favorite color
1-2 bags of rice (You can use lavender rice to
make it smell pretty, but I’m not sure where
to find it)
Sewing machine
Washable marker or fabric chalk
Needle and thread for hand-sewing
File folder or cardboard (optional)
3. Trace your fabric. I used a file folder to make a perfect
template for tracing on my fabric, but it is not necessary.
You need a ‘C’ shape that is half of a circle and will fit
around your shoulders and hang over your neck.
You will need to trace two identical shapes. I used a
washable marker on the back of the fabric so it wouldn’t
show. Yes, I need tailor’s chalk!
4. Cutout your fabric shapes, leaving about ¼”
buffer for sewing.
5. Pin your two shapes together, pretty sides
together (you will turn right side-out later).
Sew your pieces together using a sewing
machine (or by hand if you’re that patient),
staying on the lines you drew. Leave about
2” open at the end for turning it inside-out
and adding rice.
6. Turnyour rice neck warmer right side-out
through the hole you left unsewn (pillowcase
style). DO NOT SEW THE HOLE UP YET.
7. The first time I made one of these rice
warmers, I didn’t make it in a ‘C’ shape, and
I didn’t add these dividers. Now I see my
mistake. The dividers are great because they
keep all the rice from moving to one side of
the warmer.
To do this, sew about 6 straight lines from
the outside to the inside of the ‘C’ shape,
leaving about ½” – 1” open to add the rice.
See my illustration on the next page for
clarification.

9. Use a large funnel to add the rice to the neck warmer
through the unsewn hole. Add a little rice, then use your
fingers to guide the rice through your passageway to the
end of the warmer. Keep adding rice and moving until all
the sections are filled.
10. Usea needle and thread to hand-sew your
hole left open. Be careful not to spill the
rice.

12. Microwave in a [clean] microwave for 2
minutes (more or less depending on your
preference) to heat.
Put on neck to relieve stress, cramps, and
aches.
Makes a great gift!
