ROLE OF THE ESP
TEACHER
SET GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
• Be aware of students‘ needs and potential
• Important NEEDS ANALSIS required
• Set long-term general goals
• Set specific objectives
• Target the
group of learners
ORGANIZE COURSES
• Distinguish the level of the learners
• Distinguish between real content and carrier content
• Plan a syllabus
• Plan the units in the syllabus
PREPARE MATERIAL
• Collect and find real information
• Use authentic material concerning the needs
• Evaluate if the material is too complex for the learners
• Edit and/ or adapt
the material to fit
the student's abilities
PREPARE ENVIRONMENT
• Create a positive and encouraging atmosphere
• Structure effective communication skills within the
classroom
• Listen carefully to students and demonstrate
understanding as well as correction
• Help build the student´s confidence
• Encourage learning behavior
EVALUATE
• Evaluate learning process- identifying language
problems and finding solutions
• Make during or end-of-course evaluations to find out the
effectiveness of the course

Role of the esp teacher

  • 1. ROLE OF THE ESP TEACHER
  • 2. SET GOALS AND OBJECTIVES • Be aware of students‘ needs and potential • Important NEEDS ANALSIS required • Set long-term general goals • Set specific objectives • Target the group of learners
  • 3. ORGANIZE COURSES • Distinguish the level of the learners • Distinguish between real content and carrier content • Plan a syllabus • Plan the units in the syllabus
  • 4. PREPARE MATERIAL • Collect and find real information • Use authentic material concerning the needs • Evaluate if the material is too complex for the learners • Edit and/ or adapt the material to fit the student's abilities
  • 5. PREPARE ENVIRONMENT • Create a positive and encouraging atmosphere • Structure effective communication skills within the classroom • Listen carefully to students and demonstrate understanding as well as correction • Help build the student´s confidence • Encourage learning behavior
  • 6. EVALUATE • Evaluate learning process- identifying language problems and finding solutions • Make during or end-of-course evaluations to find out the effectiveness of the course
