This document presents a series of quotes from 1703 to 1985 that criticize students' dependence on new writing and calculating technologies over time, from slates to paper to pens to calculators to computers. Each new technology was seen as distracting students from traditional methods and a sign that education was declining. However, the concluding statement notes that we still use older technologies like pens and pencils today alongside newer computers, and people will always find something new to complain about.
