Who wrote the definitive book on Data Visualization? I say it's Willard C Brinton and my session will make you agree. You'll become an evangelist too and hopefully, in 100 yrs time, our grandchildren will look back and realise 2014 was the year we started making the whole of society data literate.

- Let’s be clear. In Brinton’s day things we much more linear. Technology, as we’ll see, didn’t really alllow for much iteration

- Let’s go. As I was researching this, I was gathering notes and notes and notes about how to structure the talk. I had lots of info in lots of categories, but how to organise it? It was only once I got busy with post its that it began to fall into place

- The suffragette movement was in full flow. It would be another year before large protests and marches in New York. And many many years before anything approaching equality would be achieved. In 1914, we were stuck with a male-dominated society. And Brinton stuck to those attitudes in spades.
