4. About Legends on the Niagara
(Battlefield Course)
The imposing Battlefield course is lo-cated
on the north side of the Legends
on the Niagara property. Golf Architect
Douglas Carrick created a truly unique
course that challenges every level of
golfer.
The Battlefield course features a nice
mix of wide, links style holes with
generous undulating fairways and
greens that are bound by dense forest
and brush.
The bunkers on the Battlefield course
are particularly treacherous, as high
lips and grass walls make recoveries
from errant tee shots and approach
shots quite difficult. Even with the deep
bunkers, Carrick has designed fairways
that sweep across a gently contoured
countryside that gives the golfer some
breathing room both off the tee and as
they approach the green.
À propos du Legends on the Niagara
(parcours Battlefield)
Le parcours impressionnant de
Battlefield est situé sur le côté nord de
la propriété Legends on the Niagara.
L’architecte de golf Douglas Carrick a
créé un parcours unique qui mettra au
défi tous les golfeurs.
Le Battlefield est un parcours de style
links offrant de larges allées et verts
ondulés bordés par des buissons et
une forêt dense.
Les fosses de sable sur le parcours
de Battlefield sont particulièrement
perfides comme les lisières élevées et
les pentes en herbe rendent difficiles
les sorties de sable et les coups
d’approche. Malgré les fosses de sable
profondes, les allées conçues par Car-rick
parcourent un paysage ondoyant
donnent au golfeur une certaine marge
d’erreur à partir des tertres de départ et
à l’approche du vert.
5. Championship History
There is no better proving ground for
young male golfers in this country
than the Canadian Junior and Juvenile
Championships. Conducted by Golf
Canada since 1938, when the first
Junior Championships were played
at London Hunt and Country Club in
London, Ont., the Junior has given Ca-nadians
a glimpse into the future glory
that many of its champions have gone
on to enjoy. Canadian Golf Hall of Fam-ers
Doug Silverberg, George Knudson,
Gary Cowan and Doug Roxburgh have
all won the Silver Cup as young men
before moving on to fine amateur and
professional careers.
In addition to the 18-and-under cham-pionship,
the 16-and-under Juvenile
Championship was added in 1970, with
the winner receiving the Jack Bailey
Trophy. Since its inception, only eight
golfers have won both the Juvenile and
Junior Championships — Jim Rutledge,
Jeff Makahon, Rob McMillan, Jesse
Collinson, Dustin Risdon, Gord Scutt,
Rafael Lee and Mitch Sutton. The
Junior and Juvenile Championships
are played concurrently over 72 holes,
with the Junior Inter-Provincial Team
Championship held in conjunction with
the first 36 holes. This team event,
which pits teams from every province
against each other in stroke play com-petition,
has been played concurrently
with the first two rounds of stroke play
since 1959.
The champion of the Canadian Junior
Boys Championship earns an exemp-tion
into the Canadian Men’s Amateur
Championship.
London Hunt and Country Club, à Lon-don,
Depuis
la création de ce Championnat, huit
golfeurs seulement ont remporté les
Championnats junior et juvénile, soit
Jim Rutledge, Jeff Makahon, Rob Mc-
Millan, Jesse Collinson, Dustin Risdon,
Gord Scutt, Rafael Lee et Mitch Sutton.
Les Championnats junior et juvénile
sont disputés simultanément sur 72
trous tandis que le Championnat junior
interprovincial par équipes se déroule
de concert avec les 36 premiers trous.
Cet événement, qui oppose des équi-pes
de chaque province en compétition
par coups, est disputé depuis 1959
simultanément avec les deux premières
rondes en parties par coups.
Le champion du Championnat
canadien junior masculin obtient une
exemption en vue du Championnat
canadien amateur masculin.
