Points to Cover Say: The virtual classroom consists of four main areas The Participants Window Chat Window Audio Window Whiteboard Window Each window is a separate component and can be resized, minimized or maximized by selecting the View menu and deselecting Lock Windows . Do: Use the Whiteboard Tools to highlight each of the windows as you describe them. Say: Now let’s go through each of the windows in more detail. Do: Rotate users into being co-moderators. Every slide or two make someone new a co-moderator. This will give all participants the opportunity to practice being a moderator. It is important that someone play the role of participant that is why you are going to rotate them. Make sure that you give specific opportunities to practice while they are co-moderators. Say: While we are focusing our time today on the Moderator Interface, it is important to understand the participant interface and to experience what it is like to be a participant. It will be hard to be a good Moderator if you don’t know how to be a participant. Therefore throughout our class today, I will give each of you many opportunities to sit in the Moderator’s seat. Compare what the Moderator can do and what the Moderator can see to that of the Participant. I would also encourage you to attend as many different online classes as you can and make note of what works and what doesn’t. This will help you become a master online facilitator. Say: Notice as I make a participant a co-moderator: The class list is being updated to reflect the changes Each participant will now have the word (Moderator or Instructor) behind their name Each of participant will receive a confirmation – click OK to complete the transition
Say: Select the participant by click on their name or the row where their name appears. Then right-click and select Give Moderator Privilege. Note: To get right click menus on the Mac hold down the CTRL key and then click or sometimes it is the Command key.
Say: When a participant or moderator is using a feature a yellow halo appears behind the privilege icon next to the participant’s name. For example, in the screen shot Amanda is talking and using the Whiteboard tools, Tim is typing a message, Mike and Tim are experiencing a delay in receiving the Whiteboard screen. The delay indicators of orange and red will disappear as soon as the participant receives the information. Say: Activity indicators appear in the Audio, Whiteboard, Application Sharing, and Video Camera privilege columns in the Participants window when a delay has occurred and the participant has not received the information. The activity indicators are dynamic and will be updated and visible to all moderators throughout the session. By keeping an eye on these indicators, you can adjust the pace of your session. The delay indicators of orange and red will disappear as soon as the participant receives the information. Note: To get right click menus on the Mac hold down the CTRL key and then click.
Say: Hot key can be configured for Audio,
Points to Cover: The User Profile feature allows moderators and participants to publish information about them and to view information provided by others. Do: Make sure you have setup your User Profile. Encourage participants to setup a User Profile and view other participant’s profiles. Say: We encourage you to setup a User Profile. To do so select Profile from the Tools menu. You should also encourage your participants to create a profile. User Profiles can be used as a social networking tool. They encourage communities to develop naturally in the online environment and add a human touch to the session by displaying your picture. As the moderator you have control over the distribution of the User's Profile. You can decide whether you want no one to see the profiles, to display only the moderator profiles, or every ones user profile. To view a user's profile, hover your mouse over a name in the Participants window. Their profile information (if any) will be displayed as a tool tip. Note: Profiles are stored locally. Don’t have to recreate each time Importing and Exporting a vCard file. Instead of creating a new user profile to be used in an Elluminate Live! session, you may import a vCard. The advantage of importing a vCard is that it saves you from having to manually re-enter data that you need. You can also export the User Profile into a vCard file.
Say:
Say: Each Whiteboard tool as a set of attributes. The attributes panel appears below the Whiteboard screen. For example, the laser pointer or wand can be changed into a hand, an arrow, check mark etc. You can change the font, size, color etc for the text tools.
Say: Grab your selection tool so we can explore the object oriented nature of the Whiteboard. Do: Bring up the Skeleton WBD and show them how to click and drag objects on the Whiteboard.
Say: Content such as PowerPoint presentations, images, screen capture and clip art can be added to your Elluminate Live! sessions. You can also add Whiteboard screens at anytime. In the Getting Started Moderator training session, you learned how to load PowerPoint content onto the Whiteboard. In this class we will learn to create new whiteboard, load images including Clip Art onto the whiteboard and we will learn how to use the Screen Capture tool.
Progress: Progress bar is a status indicator for each participant and moderator indicating the overall progress of deploying the file to the participants. It shows a graph with red, orange, yellow, cyan, and green bars. Red: number of users who have less than 50% of the file, Orange: users with less than 75%, Yellow: users with less than 95%, Cyan: users with less than 99% and Green is 100% complete. Note: 10 MB file limit. Load URL: I use it in demos to transfer Use Cases from our website that are in .pdf format. For example: http://www.elluminate.com/sales/casestudies/SunMicrosystems.pdf So this is a good way to transfer files that have been posted onto a website for download. Whether it be homework, reading materials, pictures ... any sort of file posted that has a dot extension. .exe .pdf .doc .png
Green = saved Yellow = saving White = not saved
SAY: Multimedia content can be incorporated into an Elluminate session in two ways. 1. Load content into the multimedia library. 2. Post content on a web server and use the Web Tour/Web Push tool. The library supports Shockwave Flash, MPEG movies, QuickTime movies and MPEG4 movies which is the video podcast format. The way the library works is the files are loaded into the library by the moderator from within the Elluminate session or added to the session as pre-loaded content. Pre-loaded content is done through the Elluminate administrative back-end. The content is literally uploaded from the moderators computer to the Elluminate server and then downloaded to each participants computer. T

Say: Practice with two computers – one with you as the moderator and another logged in as a participant. As you work with your presentation, look at the participant computer to see what they are seeing. Animate your delivery. Since you can’t use body language to engage with your participants you must energize your voice. Visualize your participants or view their profiles or even turn on live video. It is important to remember you have real live people on the other end of your delivery. Having a visual image of each participant will help you create an engaging learning environment. Provide plenty opportunities for interactivity and collaboration. Ask Yes/No questions and multiple choice polls. Ask participants to respond with applause or laughter. Get them using the Direct Messaging window with introductions and brainstorming exercises. Do: Use the Whiteboard tool to check off each tip as you explain them.
