The Idea
• “What other people think” has always been an important piece of information for
most of us during the decision-making process. !
!
• For commercial applications it is often vital to see an aggregated opinion on a certain
topic, observe all attitudes and their proportions.!
!
• The availability and popularity of opinion-rich resources such as social networks
and personal blogs, the technologies of sentiment grows every day!
!
• Sentiment analysis allows us to create tools that would allow businesses gain insight
into the social web and make use of it’s assets. !
!
• With our service, one could easily get a review on public opinions in a most friendly
and flexible way, available as a service and most importantly - in real-time.
The Solution
Our product consists of the following parts:!
• A web service that provides access to an input form and
an adaptive online sentiment map of the region!
• A sentiment analysis engine!
• A large tweet database
Applications
• Business intelligence seems to be one of the main factors behind corporate interest in
the field. By tracking public viewpoints, one could perform trend prediction in sales or
other relevant data !
!
• Government intelligence is another application that has been considered. For example,
it has been suggested that one could monitor sources for increases in hostile or
negative communications!
!
• As is well known, opinions matter a great deal in politics. Our framework could also
be used in that field, allowing the automatic analysis of the opinions that people
submit about pending policy or government-regulation proposals!
!
• Our sentiment-analysis and opinion-mining system also has an important potential
role as enabling technologies for other systems such as: recommendation systems,
reputation tracking and more!
Evaluation
For the purpose of testing our product, several approaches have been proposed:!
!
• Compare results against existing sociological research data!
!
• Compare results with large aggregators like online review sites!
!
• Check consistency with latest news feed of the region!
!
• Social networking!
!
