2. A large number of students are under the impression that since
they have given the architecture entrance exam (JEE) conducted
by CBSE, they would get admission on the basis of this exam. As
a matter of fact very few colleges accept the score of JEE. Most
of the self financing and other architecture colleges and schools
in India accept only NATA score. Unless and until you clear NATA
exam you cannot get admission in these colleges.

A large number of engineering colleges are offering
B.Tech./B.E. degree courses but the colleges offering
architecture degree course are comparatively very
less. Only 49 thousand architects are registered in
the country till December 2015. There is an estimated
shortage of 7 lakh architects in the country. With
expanding global economies, rising incomes, mass
migration of people from rural to urban areas as a
result of mass transport systems available, the
demand on architecture has increased manifolds.

Presently the number of schools offering five
years B. Arch. Degree course in the country are
458 (as on 7th October 2016) and admission to
the course in all schools of architecture is
compulsorily through aptitude tests. The syllabus
and pattern of the tests are prescribed by Council
of Architecture.

13. NATA
National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being
conducted by CoA, at national level, to provide a single
window system for appearing in aptitude test to students and
institutions for admission to 1st year of 5-year B.Arch Degree
Course at all approved Institutions all over country. The
purpose of conducting NATA is to provide a single scheme of
examination for holding aptitude test and to facilitate
prospective students all over the country to apply for
admissions in architectural institutional in the country.
However, actual admissions shall be carried out only by the
concerned designated authorities of the respective states/
institutions based on NATA.

14. NATA was introduced by the Council to mitigate the burden
of students all over the country who were made to appear for
different Aptitude Tests in different states for admission to 5-
year B.Arch. degree course. NATA also ensures that the
eligibility criteria for admission to five-year Bachelor of
Architecture (B.Arch.) degree course, as stipulated in the
Regulations by CoA and duly approved by the Central
Government, are strictly adhered to and followed all over the
country in Architectural Institutions.
The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures
the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e.
Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation
skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity, Mathematics
and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a
long period of time and that are related to the specific field of
study, i.e. Architecture.

15. The Council after carefully considering the various
suggestions, anomalies regarding conduct of NATA in
the past, in order to further improve and strengthen the
conduct of exam, and to attract bright students into
studying Architecture, has decided to conduct NATA as a
one day examination (Pencil & Paper based) all over the
country on similar lines with other national level entrance
exams all over the country.
NATA-2017 for the academic session 2017-2018 shall
be conducted as one-day examination (offline) all over
the country on 16.04.2017 (Sunday).

16. NATA shall consist of 2 Parts, paper based
carrying maximum marks of 200. Part 1 of NATA
shall consist of multiple choice 60 questions of 2
marks each (MCQ type) on Mathematics and
General Aptitude for a duration of 90 minutes,
while Part 2 which is on Drawing and
Observation Skills shall carry 2 questions of 40
marks each- duration 90 minutes.

with Mathematics as a subject or done diploma
from a recognised institute/university/board
with at least 50% aggregate marks in
l2th/diploma.

22. Many coaching centres are providing expert
coaching for IIT and B.Tech. but very few
experts are available for architecture
entrance examinations. Only qualified and
experienced architects can provide coaching
and guidance for architecture entrance
exams.

25. The Aptitude Test in Architecture shall
consist of
Test of - Aesthetic Sensitivity is to
evaluate candidate’s perception,
imagination and observation; creativity
and communication; and Architectural
awareness. The test shall be of objective
type and comprise of topics related
to,(i)Visualizing three dimensional
objects from two dimensional
drawings.(ii) Visualizing different sides of
three dimensional object.(iii) Analytical
Reasoning.(iv) Mental Ability.(v)
Imaginative comprehension and

26. The Drawing aptitude of the candidate shall be
judged on the following aspects:(i)ability to
sketch a given object proportionately and
rendering the same in visually appealing
manner.(ii) Visualizing and drawing the effects
of light on the object and shadows cast on the
surroundings.(iii) Sense of perspective
drawing.(iv) Creating interesting two
dimensional composition using given shapes or
forms.(v) Creating visual harmony using
colours in given composition.(vi) Understanding
of scale and sense of proportion (vii) Drawing
from memory through pencil sketch on theme
from day to day experiences.
