The word architecture can have many meanings.
Depending on the context, architecture can refer to:
1. any man-made building or structure
2. a man-made building or structure that is important,
large, or highly creative
3. a carefully designed object, such as a chair, a
spoon, or a tea kettle
4. a design for a city, town, park, or landscape
5. the art or science of designing and building
buildings, structures, objects, and outdoor spaces
6. a building style or method
7. a plan for organizing space

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN ARCHITECT
The responsibilities assigned to an architect
require him to be an effective manager. An
architect has to be both a team player and a
leader. Not only is he required to deal with his
clients and ensure the best out of his design
team, but also included in his list of activities is
to co- ordinate between various design and
technical consultants and supervise work at site.

B.ARCH. DEGREE PROGRAMME
The architecture students are trained by getting
exposed to live problems, situations and
circumstances. Teaching, throughout the course of
five years, is based on an inter-disciplinary approach
which in addition to classroom learning through
lectures, slide talks, discussions, assignments,
comprehension tests, etc. entails numerous site visits
and on-the-spot studies.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
As professional experts in the field of building
design and construction, architects use their unique
creative skills to advise individuals, property owners
and developers, community groups, local authorities
and commercial organizations. Generally architects
work with architectural firms, in entrepreneurial
ventures. But they are not limited to working only at
traditional architectural firms. They also work as
corporate and public architects.

COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE
The Council of Architecture (COA) has been
constituted by the Government of India under the
provisions of the Architects Act, 1972, enacted by
the Parliament of India, which came into force on
1st September, 1972.
The Council of Architecture is charged with the
responsibility to regulate the education and practice
of profession throughout India besides maintaining
the register of architects.

ARCHITECT
Any person desirous of carrying on the profession of
'Architect' must have registered himself with Council
of Architecture. For the purpose of registration, one
must possess the requisite qualification as
appended to the Architects Act, after having
undergone the education in accordance with the
Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of
Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983. The
registration with Council of Architecture entitles a
person to practice the profession of architecture.

COMPETENT AUTHORITY
AND CONDUCT OF APTITUDE TEST
The admissions shall be carried out by the
Competent authority i.e. the Government or
University, or such authorities/ institution concerned
[School/ College of Architecture]/ Association or
Federation of Institutions [Schools or College of
Architecture], as approved by the Government /
University, based on the marks obtained in
NATA/JEE and the qualifying examinations.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
No candidate, with less than 50% marks in
aggregate, shall be admitted to the architecture
course unless he/ she has passed an examination
at the end of the new 10+2 scheme of Senior
School Certificate Examination or equivalent with
Mathematics as subjects of examination at the 10+2
level.
All Admissions to Architecture degree course shall
be subject to passing of National Aptitude Test in
Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of
Architecture or JEE(B.Arch.).

NATA/JEE [B.Arch.]
National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being
conducted by CoA, at national level, to provide a single
window system for appearing in aptitude test to students and
institutions for admission to 1st year of 5-year B.Arch Degree
Course at all approved Institutions all over country. The
purpose of conducting NATA is to provide a single scheme of
examination for holding aptitude test and to facilitate
prospective students all over the country to apply for
admissions in architectural institutional in the country.
However, actual admissions shall be carried out only by the
concerned designated authorities of the respective states/
institutions based on NATA.

NATA was introduced by the Council to mitigate the
burden of students all over the country who were made
to appear for different Aptitude Tests in different states
for admission to 5-year B.Arch. degree course. NATA
also ensures that the eligibility criteria for admission to
five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree
course, as stipulated in the Regulations by CoA and duly
approved by the Central Government, are strictly
adhered to and followed all over the country in
Architectural Institutions.
The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)
measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field
of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing
and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic
sensitivity, Mathematics and critical thinking ability that
have been acquired over a long period of time and that

The Council after carefully considering the various
suggestions, anomalies regarding conduct of NATA in
the past, in order to further improve and strengthen the
conduct of exam, and to attract bright students into
studying Architecture, has decided to conduct NATA as a
one day examination (Pencil & Paper based) all over the
country on similar lines with other national level entrance
exams all over the country.
NATA-2017 for the academic session 2017-2018 shall
be conducted as one-day examination (offline) all over
the country on 16.04.2017 (Sunday).

The JEE (formerly AIEEE) is an all India level entrance
examination for both engineering/architecture streams. It
comprises of separate question patterns and structure for
both the streams. The JEE pattern for B. Arch/B. Planning
comprises of three important parts, part 1 consists of
questions from mathematics and part 2 consists of aptitude
type questions and part 3 consists of drawing and sketching.
It includes questions in testing the students’ attitudes
regarding people, place and environment.

NATA shall consist of 2 Parts, paper
based carrying maximum marks of 200.
Part 1 of NATA shall consist of multiple
choice 60 questions of 2 marks each
(MCQ type) on Mathematics and
General Aptitude for a duration of 90
minutes, while Part 2 which is on
Drawing and Observation Skills shall
carry 2 questions of 40 marks each-
duration 90 minutes.

HOW TO APPLY
NATA Examination shall be conducted at around
70 cities spread all over the country. The
Candidates shall have to furnish a choice of three
cities for the test centre and the centre shall be
allocated by the Council on the basis of number of
applications received from a particular city/state.
The candidates can fill in the Application Form on
NATA website and remit NATA Exam Fee of
Rs.1250/- online. NATA brochure and other
information about submission of online application,
eligibility etc. shall be available at the NATA portal
www.nata.nic.in.

Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Materials.) Objects, Texture related to
Architecture and built environment. Visualising three dimensional objects from
two dimensional drawings. Visualising different sides of three dimensional
objects. Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal).
Three dimensional - perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and
proportion of objects, building forms and elements, colour, texture, harmony and
contrast. Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in
pencil. Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation,
development of surfaces and volumes, Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D
views of objects.

Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions
using given shapes and forms. Sketching of scenes and activities

  • 9. RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN ARCHITECT The responsibilities assigned to an architect require him to be an effective manager. An architect has to be both a team player and a leader.   • 10. B.ARCH. DEGREE PROGRAMME The architecture students are trained by getting exposed to live problems, situations and circumstances. JOB OPPORTUNITIES As professional experts in the field of building design and construction, architects use their unique creative skills to advise individuals, property owners and developers, community groups, local authorities and commercial organizations. Generally architects work with architectural firms, in entrepreneurial ventures. But they are not limited to working only at traditional architectural firms. COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE The Council of Architecture (COA) has been constituted by the Government of India under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972, enacted by the Parliament of India, which came into force on 1st September, 1972. The Council of Architecture is charged with the responsibility to regulate the education and practice of profession throughout India besides maintaining the register of architects. © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design
  • 13. ARCHITECT Any person desirous of carrying on the profession of 'Architect' must have registered himself with Council of Architecture. For the purpose of registration, one must possess the requisite qualification as appended to the Architects Act, after having undergone the education in accordance with the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983. The registration with Council of Architecture entitles a person to practice the profession of architecture. © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design

COMPETENT AUTHORITY AND CONDUCT OF APTITUDE TEST The admissions shall be carried out by the Competent authority i.e. the Government or University, or such authorities/ institution concerned [School/ College of Architecture]/ Association or Federation of Institutions [Schools or College of Architecture], as approved by the Government / University, based on the marks obtained in NATA/JEE and the qualifying examinations. © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION No candidate, with less than 50% marks in aggregate, shall be admitted to the architecture course unless he/ she has passed an examination at the end of the new 10+2 scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as subjects of examination at the 10+2 level. All Admissions to Architecture degree course shall be subject to passing of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of Architecture or JEE(B.Arch.). © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design

NATA/JEE [B.Arch.] National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being conducted by CoA, at national level, to provide a single window system for appearing in aptitude test to students and institutions for admission to 1st year of 5-year B.Arch Degree Course at all approved Institutions all over country. The purpose of conducting NATA is to provide a single scheme of examination for holding aptitude test and to facilitate prospective students all over the country to apply for admissions in architectural institutional in the country. However, actual admissions shall be carried out only by the concerned designated authorities of the respective states/ institutions based on NATA. © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design

NATA was introduced by the Council to mitigate the burden of students all over the country who were made to appear for different Aptitude Tests in different states for admission to 5-year B.Arch. degree course. NATA also ensures that the eligibility criteria for admission to five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree course, as stipulated in the Regulations by CoA and duly approved by the Central Government, are strictly adhered to and followed all over the country in Architectural Institutions. The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity, Mathematics and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a long period of time and that © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design

The Council after carefully considering the various suggestions, anomalies regarding conduct of NATA in the past, in order to further improve and strengthen the conduct of exam, and to attract bright students into studying Architecture, has decided to conduct NATA as a one day examination (Pencil & Paper based) all over the country on similar lines with other national level entrance exams all over the country. NATA-2017 for the academic session 2017-2018 shall be conducted as one-day examination (offline) all over the country on 16.04.2017 (Sunday). © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design
  • 19. The JEE (formerly AIEEE) is an all India level entrance examination for both engineering/architecture streams. It comprises of separate question patterns and structure for both the streams. The JEE pattern for B. Arch/B. Planning comprises of three important parts, part 1 consists of questions from mathematics and part 2 consists of aptitude type questions and part 3 consists of drawing and sketching.   • 21. NATA shall consist of 2 Parts, paper based carrying maximum marks of 200. Part 1 of NATA shall consist of multiple choice 60 questions of 2 marks each (MCQ type) on Mathematics and General Aptitude for a duration of 90 minutes, while Part 2 which is on Drawing and Observation Skills shall carry 2 questions of 40 marks each- duration 90 minutes. © Global Academy of Vaastu and Design
  • 22. HOW TO APPLY NATA Examination shall be conducted at around 70 cities spread all over the country. The Candidates shall have to furnish a choice of three cities for the test centre and the centre shall be allocated by the Council on the basis of number of applications received from a particular city/state. The candidates can fill in the Application Form on NATA website and remit NATA Exam Fee of Rs.1250/- online.
