3. abstract
impulsionsdialogiques explores the concepts of 'community' and
'communication' through electronical layerings of habitual experiences that
reveal hidden patterns in users' immediate environment, that are at once
generated, affected, and controlled by users.
This project aims at providing users with a new way of perceiving and thinking of
structures and patterns in the world, and reconsidering the way they interact
with 'the social.'
4. concept / topic
Through monitoring users' HRV (Heart Rate Variability) levels, devices will
enable individual devices to send bio-sensitive markers to neighboring users -at
random-, relying closely on relative positioning in real space and time.
Markers will consist of mathematically-generated visuals responding to intra-
personal electrical impulses (biofeedback), revealing a certain type of emotional
state, giving new content to space and new meaning to 'communication.' In this
way, users will interact with one another on anonymous grounds and on non-
verbal and non-invasive communication levels.
Devices will also allow users to visualize bio-interactive spaces, and decipher
the larger-scale structure of hidden bio-dynamics in the context of new local
interactivity in habitual contexts.

allows users to make their loved one know about their
state of mind remotely. It operates by tilting it at

10. project proposal
TECHNICAL VIEW : receiver
the user is equipped with a
device that senses his/her
HRV levels.
the wireless environment
connects multiple devices
with one another as clusters;
which provides opportunities
for local interactions in urban
spaces.
the device senses values
and depending on the
conjunction of both variables
(HRV and stroking behavior),
sends a vibration signal
along with a visual marker
responding to real-time "peak
experiences" (Maslow, 1968:
97) that have specific
emotions or moods assigned
to them.

large-scale structures."

13. design questions
How might interpersonal ubiquity provide opportunities for interaction on
the intra-personal level?
How might electronic interventions affect habitual experiences and social
practices or flow?
What can we learn from nonlinear dynamics of complex systems, from the
emergence of order and self-organization in nature? How might these
redefine the practice of interaction design as a practice that supports
exploratory behavior?
and, How might electronic layering of habitual experiences change our
understanding of 'communication' and 'community'?
