The Jane Salzano Center
for Autism
5. about the Jane Salzano Center
for autism
ith the first phase of construction completed in November, 2004, this
W vibrant and architecturally dynamicg facility has become CSAAC’s new
home. Just as CSAAC pioneered inclusion in the community for
individuals with autism, now CSAAC pioneers the creation of a model,
world-class, state-of-the-art center for autism services like none other, anywhere.
Supported substantially by the State of Maryland and the Montgomery County
Government, grateful CSAAC families have rallied to answer the call for completion
funds, and many have chosen to make their gift of gratitude through numerous center-
based naming opportunities. Additional completion funds are sought to provide
furnishings for the interior.
CSAAC opens its doors to the community with the inclusion of an Autism Training Center,
Autism Resource Library, and Multipurpose Community Room – all designed with public
and professional education, and recreation for our individuals in mind. CSAAC endeavors
to meet the rising need for autism services – autism is diagnosed in 1 out of 150 children*
– which also translates to a greater need for professionals in the field.
With the completion of the Center, CSAAC will lead the way towards a brighter future
for children and adults with autism.

8. A world-class
training center
s a national model provider for
A autism services, CSAAC regularly
receives inquiries from state
governmental units and other local
service providing agencies to conduct autism
training seminars. The Training Wing of the
new center will offer much needed autism
training space that can be used not only for
training individuals served by CSAAC, for
CSAAC staff training, but also for the training
of other industry professionals. With the
demand for autism services on the rise,
CSAAC is taking the lead in the industry to
ensure all individuals with autism receive
proper, state-of-the-art services, whether
served by CSAAC, or elsewhere. Annually,
CSAAC provides approximately 29,000 hours
of staff training in-house each year. “We have
been recognized by the State as a provider of
quality autism services training,” says Ian Paregol, CSAAC Executive Director. “We plan to
market our training to other developmental disabilities service providers who don’t have the
capacity to train their own staff. With the addition of the training center space, we anticipate
a strong response from the developmental disabilities provider community to the opening
of our Training Institute—certainly the need is there.”
Legacy opportunities for the naming of the training center, training rooms, and the
multipurpose room will be used towards furnishings of the Training Center.
