1. REGENERATION
For your consideration: the difference
between the Greek words·Palingenesia and
Anothen.
Palingenesia is used in many scriptures as
meaning again birth or born over; it has a
redundant meaning.
Anothen means from above or from the top_
James 1:17, "Every goodgift and every
perfectgift is from above, and cometh down
from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning. H
This describes this gift cometh from above,
or Anothen. In comparison, James 3:15, "This
wisdom descendeth not from above, but is
earthly, sensual, devilish, shows what does

not come from above. John 3:3-7, "Jesus
answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I
say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom ofGod (4)
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be
born when he is old? can he enter the second

2. time into his mother's womb, and be born?
(5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto
thee, Except a man be born of water and of
the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom
of God. (6) That which is born of the flesh is
flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is
spirit. (7) Marvel not that I said unto thee,
Ye must be born again. As Jesus is

explaining to Nicodemus about being born
again, Jesus is saying born from above.
Nicodemus can only think about natural birth
because that is all he knows about being born.
In verse 3:10, Jesus scolds him for not
knowing being a master of Israel, "Jesus
answered and said unto him, Art thou a
master ofIsrael, and knowest not these
things?" What is it that he should have
known or perhaps he has forgotten?
Colossians 1:25-27, "Whereof I am made a
minister, according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you, to fulfil the
word ofGod: (26) Even the mystery whiqh
hath been hid from ages and from .
generations, but now is made manifest to his
saints,· (27) To whom God would make. known

3. what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in
you, the hope ofglory:" brings out a great
truth that you can be born of the Spirit and
have Christ in you, yet God has hidden this
from his elect from ages and generations.
From the calling and election of Abraham, God
has in mind a chosen seed that begins with
Abraham and continues down to Christ.
Galatians 3:16, "Now to Abraham and his ieed
were the promises made. He saith not, And to
- seeds, as ofmany; but as of one, And to thy
seed, which is Christ. This people are God

Covenant people and arecalJed children of
promise but their bir5th wasnaturaJ and the
seed was natural. One of the things that
Nicodemus was supposed to know was that
these promised children were of God. This
being born of natural seed ended when it
descended down to Christ. His seed now
makes up the New Covenant people. I think it
is wrong to say that just being born of the
Spirit gives a chifd of God the quaJificationto
enable him to be in the New Covenant. Jesus
spoke to Nicodemus further that you must be

4. born of water and of the Spirit to enter the
kingdom as the scripture teaches.
Revelation 5:9 reads, "And they sung a new
song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the
book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou
wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by
thy blood out ofevery kindred, and tongue,
andpeople, andnation;H Let us not forget as
he has a people in every age and among all
nations, it is reasonable to say that many of
the Israelites were born of the Spirit
according to their eternal election, but as was
written in Colossians 1:25, they did not know
that Christ was in them. This is the reason
Paul writes that he brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel. The
Israelites served God with carnal ordinances
not being mixed with faith. No doubt the
covenant people in the New Testament are
able to understand the types and shadows .
because they have the Spirit of truth and
understanding being able to understand even
the deep things of God. This cov~nant must
be an election of grace so that they don't .
seek righteousness by the Law of Moses, but

5. by the election of grace. As we concede that;
God has a people in every kindred, tongue, .,' .
people and nation, only the church that Jesus
calls "my church" has the truth. We can see
what happens when the bible is' preached what
comes out is many churches and doctrines.
Parables are preached literally, not even
understanding that Jesus spoke in parables to
hide the Kingdom of Heaven from them', and,
revealed the true meaning to his disciples.
Now Jesus spoke of a birth to Nicodemus and
that-is to be born of water and Spirit to
enter the Kingdom of God. In Galatians 4:19;
" My little children, of whom I travail in birth
again until Christ be formed in you, " Paul has
used the word "regeneration" or "birth again"
to show with what he will labor with until
Christ is formed in them. This birth wilt be to
them as Job wrote, "I have heard of thee by
the hearing of my ears, but now mine eyes see
thee and I abhor myself and repent in dust
,and ashes." This is when Christ appears or
rather Christ is formed again in them. In
regeneration, you are not born again as a babe
is given a new life. It is not the eternal life in

6. the new birth but a life that is spoken by
Christ. It is the mustard seed. This seed
indeed has life but eventually this life of this
tiny seed grows into a large tree. This is .
typical of the Kingdom of Heaven.
In John 3:7-8, "Marvel not that I said unto
thee, Ye must be born again. (8) The wind
bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest
the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence
it cometh, and whither itgoeth: so is every
one that is born of the Spirit, H Jesus says
don't marvel at this because you must be born
from above or again, the wind or Spirit blows .
where it listeth or will. The Holy Spirit is a
person of the Godhead and has the same mind
and love that all of the Godhead has. It
pleases the Holy Spirit to give the spiritual
birth according to the will of God. The
spiritual birth by water does not come to
every child of God, but by election. It does
not seem that it came to Nicodemus who was
a child of God, but he never seemed in his life
that he could be a disciple of Christ.

7. In Titus 3:2-5, "To speak evil ofno man~··fobe
no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness
unto all men. (3) For we ourselves also were
sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived,
serving divers lusts and pleasures, ·/iving in
malice and envy, hateful, and hating one .
another. ,(4) But after that the kindness and
love ofGod our Saviour toward man appeared,
(5) Not by works ofrighteousness which we
have done, but according to his mercy he
saved us, by the washing ofregenerstion, and
renewing of the Holy Ghost;" regeneration is
a birth of belief and faith and it comes to
some children of God by washing out of his
natural life things that are displeasing to God.
This is just the mercy of God to deliver us
from the things that would keep us from
entering into the Kingdom 'of God. Titus
describes these sins that by nature we feel .
there is nothing wrong with. We lose our
foolishness by this washing of the Spirit.
How can we know obedience until God deals
with us to know what pleases him? Being
deceived is a great wrong about the truth.
We can be deceived and not know it. This

8. washing or condemnation reveals that divers
lusts' and pleasures. What a surprise to learn
that what we enjoy and spend a lot of time
and money on and something we get pleasure
from is wrong. The sin of these things is that
it is an idol in our lives. God will not have any
other God before him. This washing is very
severe but when washed away, by the washing
of the word, it causes a new life to come into
being. Even as Job found after his
experience, when it ended he was given twice
as much as he had before. It was the second
life as the little Greek word - Regeneration- .
or 2nd life which·is life in God's Kingdom.
lCorinthians6:9;.11, "Know ye not that the
unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of
God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators,
nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate,
nor abusers of themselves with mankind, (10)
Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the
kingdom ofGod. (11) Andsuch were some of .
you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified,
but ye are justified in the name of the Lord
Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. The

9. Corinthians had sinful lives that would keep
them out of the Kingdom of Heaven, but God
in his loving mercy washed them, sanctified
them, and justifi4ed them in the name of the
Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of God. This
experience of grace came upon people already
born of the Spirit yet leading lives according
to a sinful nature and God qualified them to
be in his Kingdom where he rules in our lives
and we can bear fruit that is to his honor.
This subject is of great importance to the
True Church to be established in the truth.
