G321: Music magazine initial ideas

1. Brief
Ayan fidar
Student to produce the front page, contents page and double page spread
of a new music magazine. Photoshop will be used for image manipulation
and InDesign will be used for page layout and design features on contents
page and article.

2. Magazine covers
• I like these magazine covers because they all very eye catching and very different
from each other. Especially the Q magazine (second) is very eye catching as the rain in
the images looks 3D.It also uses great colour contrast: the use of black and white and
the unexpected attention grabbing red brings readers to want to read the magazine.
• The VIBE magazine also uses a great colour contrast: the colours black and white ,take
the audience back sentries to the time there were no colour pictures it also makes the
picture look more sophisticated and formal. The white background limits the attention
so that the artist gets all the attention possible.
• Lastly I like the music magazine because its very different genera from the other two
as its seems more elegant, formal and posh. Also the use of the mid-shot of Sarah
Chang makes the magazine stand out from Q and VIBE magazines as they are both
medium close up shots .

3. Contents page
• I have been doing some research into magazine content pages and these are
the three I like. The first content page I think is very successful in my opinion
as it contains a lot of images which makes the writing on this page seem very
limited. I personally like this because the images tells me what topics the
magazine is covering. The Q content page is very eye catching as there is a
close up shot of the celebrity which is looking directly at the reader. The
images is taking fairly a big amount of space which again makes the writing
look very small and again I like this. The SPIN magazine has a very attractive
content page .I personally like this because of the image as it gives out a
message that the magazine is going to cover some ‘Fun!’ topics .

4. Articles.
I have been doing some
research on music
articles a and these
are there I like .The Q
magazine is very
effective as the
image is in black and
white which makes it
look more
sophisticated and
formal and the
information on the
pages is neatly laid
out and easy to read
. The other two
articles are about
band and they both
have long shot
images .The images
attract the readers as
they use good
amount of space and
the readers will know
who the article is
going to be about.
