John Lennon was born in Liverpool, England in 1940 and was a founding member and singer/guitarist of the Beatles from 1960 to 1970. After the Beatles broke up, John moved to New York City and pursued a solo music career until his death in 1980 at age 40. The Beatles consisted of four members - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison - each playing different instruments and singing.
