The first team sport was added in the 1900 Olympics.
A fitting sport, as it is one of the few sports outside
of the Olympics that was actually played on an
international level (Every U.S. sport kept strictly
within domestic borders). In the first game, X, Y, and
Belgium won gold, silver, and bronze respectively.

X started his Olympic journey in Sydney where he
won silver in the Team Sprint. In Athens he won
gold in the 1km time trial and in Beijing he won
three golds in the Sprint, Team Sprint and Keirin. In
London with the home crowd cheering him on, he
achieved a gold in the Team Sprint and a gold in the
Keirin.
He was recently knighted for his services to his sport
and the Y for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth
Games has been named in his honor.

This is Waldi the dachshund. Waldi, depicted in
cartoon form, was a blue wiener-dog that appeared
to be wearing a rainbow-colored sweater. In 1972, he
was introduced to the sporting world in a unique
way. How so?

People from South India „celebrate‟ the Theemithi
festival by doing something in honour of the Hindu
goddess Draupadi– so rather than doing this quickly,
the devotees have to do it very slowly, as though it‟s
a walk in the park. The ritual begins when the head
priest does the same with a pot on his head, filled
with sacred water. He is then followed by other men,
who seek to prove their piety by doing the same.
What is this ritual?
14.
The Indian game of X and the closely-related game
Pachchisi are the original cross-and-circle games, of
which the best known example in the West is the
much-simplified Y. Players aim to race their pieces
around the board, with moves determined by a
throw of cowry shells. An opponent‟s pieces can be
captured by landing on the same square, and two of
a player‟s pieces on the same square can merge into a
“super-piece”. X and Y?

This three time European footballer of the year was
recently voted the 2nd best player of the century, only
behind Pele. In his only World Cup appearance he led his
country to victories over Argentina and champions Brazil,
before they eventually lost in the final to West Germany.
After helping his country qualify for the 1978 World Cup,
he surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from
international football. They again made the final in ‟78,
and many believe that had X been in the side, they would
have beaten winners Argentina. Who is this X who had an
extremely illustrious club career who won 10 league titles
and 3 European cups?
20.
Jallikattu is done without the help of any rope or
weapons contrary to its Spanish counterpart.
Thankfully, the X‟s life is also spared afterwards,
bovines being famously sacred in India. Celebrated
during Pongal, this is one of the most dangerous
sports played in India. Youth, ardent for some
desperate glory, usually strive either to tame the X or
at least to hang on to it for a reward – usually
money.
23.
The Derby della Capitale is the local football derby in
Z, between the two major teams of the city, X and Y.
It is considered to be the fiercest derby in the country
ahead of the other major local derbies, Derby della
Madonnina and Derby della Mole (Turin derby), and
one of the greatest and hotly contested capital
derbies in Europe. The derby has been historically
marked by massive crowds, excitement, violence and
– recently – racist banners in the crowd.
Which two teams?

An opening batsman and slow left arm orthodox
bowler, he played in 44 Tests for India, and made

centuries with a top score of 231. He also took 162
wickets at the average of 32.32, including eight fivewicket hauls. He is one of the three cricketers to have
batted in every position, from the first to the last,
during his Test career. His son played cricket for
India and his grandson is a professional tennis
player. Who?

X is an Indian cricketer and cricket administrator
also known by the nickname 'Colonel'. He was
known as one of the foremost exponents of
the drive. Along with Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa
Viswanath, he was a key player in the Indian batting
line up in the late 70s and early 80s. He went on to
play till 1989 and represented Bombay in the Ranji
Trophy. For Test matches played in India, he has one
of the highest batting averages. He was the
Chairman of Selection Committee of the BCCI from
2006-08. Who?

Lawrie Colliver: Too lazy to take the stairs, eh,, X?
X: I‟m fond of taking the aerial route, Lawrie! Which floor are you
heading to?
Colliver: The fourth.
X (presses the 4 button): Alright then, I start off with a boundary!
(presses „4‟ again)Consecutive boundaries! (presses „4‟ again) We‟re
dealing in boundaries at the moment (presses the „6‟ now) Now I go
big! It‟s in the air, going, going, gone! (presses „6‟ again) And again!
This one is in the stands! (presses 4 and 6 indiscriminately and in rapid
succession, as a shell-shocked Lawrie watches in utter disbelief) This
bowler is being taken to the cleaners!
(Suddenly, sparks fly from the button panel, and a loud grating noise is
heard overhead, forcing Lawrie and the others to cover their ears and
duck reflexively)
X (completely unperturbed): The atmosphere in the elevator is electric,
and the noise is deafening. We should be in for a cracker, Lawrie!
33. X?
Since the favourite sport for the people of Y was the
game of football, X was initially attracted to the game
but rose to fame in another sport. However, academics
came in-between his love for sports and his mother was
not very supportive of him taking up any sport as a
career. By then, his elder brother was already an
established cricketer for the Bengal cricket team. He
supported X's dream to be a cricketer and asked their
father to get X enrolled in a camp when he was 15.
Despite being right-handed, X learnt to bat left-handed
only so he could use his brother's sporting equipment.
After he showed some promise as a batsman, he was
enrolled in a cricket academy and the rest was history.
35. Who are they talking
about?
Brian Lara quoted in an interview saying that, “ If I
have to name anyone to bat for my life, it‟ll be
Jacques Kallis or X.”
Chris Gayle on X in an interview, “X could play
attacking cricket like me but I could never play like
him.”
Brett Lee: “If you can't get along with X, you are
struggling in life.”
43.
The first historically documented formula for X appears
in Charaka Samhita, the ancient Ayurvedic treatise.
Various Indian texts like the Mahabharata and the
Puranas relate that the Vaid named Ashwini Kumar, who
was a medical adviser to the Devas during Vedic times
first prepared this formulation for a Rishi at his Ashram
on Dhosi Hill near Narnaul, hence the name X.
The real recipe of X is given in Ayurvedic texts like
Ashtangahridayam and Charaka Samhita. Nowadays
different companies are making X in their own ways by
removing some ingredients and adding their own.
46.
X, established in 1864, now has 26 showrooms in 18
cities across 7 states in India. Its main showroom is
located at ______ Bazaar in Mumbai built across five
floors and said to be the largest showroom of its type
in India. In 1987, this business was adversely affected
due to an incident which was brought to everyone‟s
cognizance once more in 2013. X? Incident?

X‟s creations include the sketches drawn for the
television adaptation of Y which was written by his
elder brother Z and directed by Shankar Nag, 1954
Asian Paints mascot Gattu and W ( has a wisp of
white hair that is perpetually standing, leaving him
with a bewildered look).
W has gained popularity over 5 decades and is the
official mascot of the low budget “Air Deccan”. A 10foot statue of W has been erected at Symbiosis
Institute in Pune.

55. What‟s the good word?
X is an Indian term which originally referred to a
place of assembly. The meaning then altered to
denote a place where skill-based contests were held
or sporting events took place and referred to any of
various meets at which contests were held to test the
skill of the competitors. In English-speaking
countries, a X refers to a multi-game equestrian
event performed to display the training and talents
of horses and their rider.
58.
It is possible that Halifax natives, many of whom
were Irish and played hurling, may have introduced
the word to Canada. The first known printed
reference was in Montreal, in 1867, just a year after
the first indoor game was played there. It is made of
vulcanised rubber and is sometimes colloquially
referred to as “Biscuit” from which we get the
phrase: Put the „Biscuit‟ in the „Basket‟. What is this

didn‟t play the world cup because they werent
allowed to play barefoot.
82. X and Y?
All 10 episodes of X are satires done on sociocultural problems of the common man. The show
was immensely popular and still gets repeated reruns on various Doordarshan channels. The show
was shot completely in Chandigarh with some
episodes being shot at Punjab Engineering
Collge ( Y was an alumnus of that college ). The cast
remained the same in every episode, although they
played different characters as each episode essayed a
different story.
85. X?
The company X was founded as a partnership firm
Littlewood Y, in 1865. The first project was the
construction of a pavement on the Girgaum
Chowpatty, followed by being part of the
construction of a reservoir on Malabar Hill which
supplied water to Mumbai for over 100 years. The
company also built the Brabourne stadium in
Mumbai and the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Delhi.
Z, Chairmain and CEO of X, has a son who was in
the news in December 2012.

It was carved from the natural landscape in the fifth
century, and hosts the embodiment of Indian art in the
form of staggeringly beautiful carvings and statues. The
carvings on the panels portray various Hindu deities,
along with their attendants. The most important and
brilliant sculpture depicts the Trimurti. This twenty foot
image was carved in relief at the back of the cave, and it
presents the three-headed Shiva.
To reach the temple, you have to travel from the Indian
mainland to the island, traverse the mountain, and find
your way through the caves. Which place?
91.
X means "clarified butter" or "fat" in Persian, while Y
means "heat, hot, boiling, or passionate". XY thus means
cooked in oil at intense heat. Another interpretation of the
name XY is derived from the word X meaning "red color"
(the same Indo-European root that is the source of the
French “Rouge" and the Spanish “Rojo") and Y meaning
passion or heat.
XY was brought to Z by the Mughals. The unrelenting
summer heat of the Indian plains took the Mughals
frequently to Z, which has a cooler climate because of its
altitude.
