2. "Project Based Learning [PBL] is an instructional approach
built upon authentic learning activities that engage
student interest and motivation. These activities are
designed to answer a question or solve a problem and
generally reflect the types of learning and work people do
in the everyday world outside the classroom."
"Project Based Learning allows students to reflect upon
their own ideas and opinions, exercise voice and choice,
and make decisions that affect project outcomes and the
learning process in general."

3. Digital portfolios enable project-based learning; They
contain artifacts, which are digital objects that are created
and "presented using a combination of multimedia
technologies such as audio recordings, database,
spreadsheet, video and others."
"Digital portfolios are a way of showcasing student
achievement through class assignments, community
service, and occupational experience."

4. Personal branding is the concept of turning oneself into
a brand by creating things that represent one's abilities,
interests, and aspirations.
If the value of higher-ed is in its ability to cultivate
students' critical thinking and communication skills, then
we should encourage students to create digital portfolios
of their academic work that best express their potential
to future employers.
Academia can be the place of authentic learning where
students begin to build their own "personal brand," which
later can be extended far beyond academia. Social media
tools are best for achieving this purpose.

5. Progressive Curation refers to the ongoing process
of finding, filtering, and organizing content based
on interested and authentic learning. It:
● Encourages self-directed learning
● Cultivates skill for identifying categories that are
best for finding and sorting content.
● Triggers learning feedback "loop" when the
curator has to re-filter content in light of new
discoveries.
What is Progressive Curation?
6. ● Ask students to present portfolios on a weekly
basis (don't wait until the end of the semester!)
● Check student progress via portfolio
● Students produce best work when an "audience"
is observing
● Students become engaged and participate in
forms of peer feedback (for improvement)
