December newsletter
1. Media Center December Newsletter Issue: December 1, 2011 Created by: Autumn Schaffer Calling All Library Books! In order to ensure that no books are lost over the holiday break, all library materials are to be turned in by December 9. The following week the media center will be under inventory for the first half of the year. No one can checkout books after that date, but reading activities within the media center should go on as planned. On Board for The Polar Express! Our annual broadcast of “The Polar Express” will be on December 7, 2011. The students will be allowed to dress in their appropriate pajamas that day. The broadcast will begin at 12:30. We will check with 5 th grade to make sure they are back from lunch. The specials teacher and office staff will serve hot chocolate and cookies to each of the rooms. For pre-k and kindergarten students who have not read the book, will we air our narrated PowerPoint of The Polar Express on December 7, so that all of the students will be familiar with the book before watching the movie. Kindergarten Read-Around The Holiday Kindergaren Read Around will be held on December 13. This year the students will roatate between each kindergarten teacher for 30 minutes at a time. The theme is “Christmas Around the World.” The media specialist is currently working with the teachers to find different books and literature about how different places celebrate the holiday.
2. Reading Day Committee Plans Reading Day will be held December 16. As last year, the students will be allowed to dress up as their favorite book character. A list of ideas will be emailed to the teachers by December 2 to help their children plan. The Reading Committee has already met and planned several activites for the day. The media center will be doing an “Arthur Study” as we complete activites and projects about the Arthur series of books. The character parade will be held at 1:30. The teacher should submit the names of 2 of her best-dress characters before 9:00 on December 16. These students will meet in the media center at 1:15 for the parade. Book Talks Schedule December There will be book talks for Pre-K through 2nd grade this month.
