The creators were Larry Sanger and
Jimmy Wales. They thought of the
idea in the fall of 1999.
The project before Wikipedia, called
Nupedia, which was established on
March 9, 2000. This later became
officially known as Wikipedia.
Wikipedia was very small at the Larry Sanger
start, having no more than 2 articles
in 2000.

of articles grew exponentially to
