Greece is a country in Southern Europe and Greece is Balkans largest
and most well-established country. The official language is Greek . 25
March 1821,the Ottoman state was divided and independent country.
After that , 11 July 1975, the Republic was proclaimed.Greece , officially
the Hellenic Republic.Greece's population is about 12 million. The old
currency is drachma. Nonetheless, today is using Euro because Greece is
a member of the european union .Athens is the country's capital and
largest city and Athens has population about 4 million.Greece has land
borders with Albania the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to
the north, and Turkey to the northeast.There are lots of cities in Greece.
Nevertheless , the most important cities are Salonika,Piraeus,Xanti,
Patras,Giangia ,Kavala Komotine etc.. At the same time Greece has more
much islands such as Mykanos ,Santorini,Kos,Rodos,Girit,Samos,
Naxos,Patros,Patmos,Amorgos ,Symi , Xios etc..In addition , Greece has
highly delicious foods and drinks , spectacular music and dances , and
the wonderful islands with it’s really famous country.
GREEK DANCES OF CULTURE
Dance has been a very important event for greeks throughout
history. In ancient greek, dance, song and music were fundamentals
for theatre. Therefore, "xopoc"(horos) means dance and sing.
Moreover, chorus and choreography words were born from this
word. Sirtaki is known as the most famous greek dance all over the
world. Whereas, situation in greece is different. There are many
dances that are more common than sirtaki. If we look at prevalence,
greece's national dance is sirto. Also,rembetiko and zeybetikos are
very important dances. Rembetiko is especially the most popular
folk dance in modern greece. Zeybetikos is popular in coastal
aegean and ıslands' taverns. Also, it is very popular amongst
muslim greeks and it is similar to turkey's zeybek.

Customs And Traditions Of Greece

EASTER: Easter is both national and religional feast
that is as important as christmas for greek people.
Easter is celebrated on a sunday that coincides
between 22nd march and 25th april. According to
orthodox traditions, eggs are painted red in holy
Thursday this symbolizes the virgin mary, virginity,
lifetime and doomsday.On thursday women make
muffin and cookies.On Friday flag is stroken to the half
stroke.On saturdays and sunday, there exist some
celebrations for people moreover on sunday, a sheep
is sacrificed (for god and jesus).People start fasting on
Monday.
BAPTISM :It's an orthodox
tradition. Mostly, it is done
before the baby is one year old.
The baby is called as a baby
until it is baptized. The baby is
prepared and brought to the
church for baptizing. The clean
towels , holy water , a special lotion
with olive oil and religious necklace
are prepared. The baby is put into
baptism water and than the baby is
gotten out from the water by the
priest. After that baptism bath time
for the baby. Oil and religious
necklace immerse to the bathing
water. After that the priest whispers
baby’s name to baby’s ear 3 times.
(moslty greek babies have the same
names with their grandmother and
grandfather) .After the ritual ends,
participants wish to say “na sas
zisei”(long life) to the baby and to its
family and gifts are given.
GREEK WEDDİNG
Greeks celebrate their weddings with european style as appropriate
for today's modern weddings.Also traditional ways outweigh.For
example; in today's Greece, couples make an appoinment from a
pastor and get married with a wedding ceremony in orthodox
churches.We can compare this event with Turkey's ımam wedding,
however,ımam wedding is not an official marriage in Turkey, in
contrast, pastor's wedding is official in Greece.In addition,Greek
families are conservative just like Turkish families and they apply
some traditions.
GREEK‘S MOST FAMOUS TASTES
Greek cuisine is greece's national cuisine.This cuisine is
the heir of greek culture for hundreds of years (including
ancient greek and byzantine).It is a part of mediterranean
and balkan cuisines. It includes crete cuisine.Many of
foods are based with olive-oil.It has many similarities with
turkish west anatolian cuisine and their dishes are common
since byzantine. By the side of being close, there are some
similarities about food names too.For example, both
countries have the same baklava recipe but in Turkey,it is
baklava,in Greece it is baklavas. Another example is dolma
in Turkey and dolmades in Greece.

 Greece is the cradle of many civilizations.There are plenty
of historical places.For examples , Athens is a really
significant city and it has a lot of historical places and
Athens is famous for its ; Acropolis,Hadrianous Door ,
Stadium,temple of zeus etc.Also,Salonica is a other very
important city and Greek people using two or three names
for salonica these are salonika ,saloniki or Thessaloniki but
generally say that ‘’Thessaloniki’’. Salonica is really
significant for Greek and Turkish people because Atatürk
was born in Thessaloniki. So there are many Turkish
people go to the Thessaloniki. Furthermore , as we all
know Greece has more much island but the most popular
islands which are Mykonos, Santorini, Kos, Rhodes.

                        KOS ISLAND
Hippocrates was born in Kos so this islands is really important for
Greek people and doctors.Today many doctors coming this island
because they are Hippocrates take an oath. In addition to Kos has
beautiful beaches it is about 290 km long.
RHODES ISLAND
 The ancient walled city of Rhodes, the list of world heritage by
Unesco were taken. In the past,considered one of the seven
wonders of the world,god of the sun Port of the island `s bronze
statue of Helios. Sculpture too great. However, what a pity it was
really major earthquake down.Additionally,there are many Turks
piece in this island.
MYKONOS ISLAND
Mykonos island is a place where high society visits mostly. Everything
about entertainment can be found in this island, for example, non-stop
action, entertainment until late in bars, night clubs, restaurants with live
music, entertainment centers.In the island, the most interesting thing is
nudist camp. The camp attracts many poeple from all over the world. The
island also known as the island of liberties because it is famous with its
crazy lifestyle and its tolerance for all kind of sexual preference.
SANTORINI ISLAND
It had got its moon shape by a volcanic eruption to arrive at island,
people have to use cable car or climb 580 stairs or ride a mule. Greeks
call santorini as the island of love. According to a rumor, even friends
decide to marry after a holiday in the island.
