* The Demographics of India are remarkably diverse.
* India’s population is approximately 1.2 billion.
* Comprises one-sixth of the world’s population.
* India has more than two thousand ethnic groups.
* Further complexity is lent by the great variation that
occurs across this population on social parameters such
as income and education.
* The above figures are very alarming given the size of
the country and its population.
3. *
* It is to be noted that India has grown 5 times its size in
one Century (1901 – 2001)
* Everyyear no. of birth in India are equal to the
population of Australia or Sri Lanka.
* The population of our country is still growing at an
alarming rate. The more it keeps growing the more
problems Indians will have to face as a result of limited
resources.
* There is a need for government to take some serious
action against increasing population.
4. *Following graph shows how India’s population has
drastically increased in last century:-
5. *
* Despite the fact
that India was the first country in the
world to have a population policy, but it has not
achieved much in terms of population control.
* Indiais facing an intense crisis of resources. There is
furious competition for the nation's limited natural
resources leading to quarrels between states, between
communities and even families. Our land and water
resources are being exploited to the extreme.
* The exploitation of mineral resources is threatening
forests, nature reserves, and ecology. Over use of
resources is contributing to natural disasters occurring
more frequently and with greater impact.
6. *
* Populationis the only non-depleting resource and a
parameter of a country's development. In a country like
India where the factors contributing to population
growth far outweigh the factors for development,
population is no longer a resource but a burden to
society.
* India's
population policy has been guided by the
perception that a growing population is a serious
impediment to development efforts.
7. *
Launched National Population Policy in 2000
* Immediate objective: To improve health services
* Medium term objective: To bring birth rate to 21 by 2010 & total
fertility rate to 2.1
* Long term objective: Stabilize population by 2045
Some of the targets of NPP are:-
* Reducing maternal mortality rate below 100 per one- lakh live
births
* Providing information & counseling without discrimination
* To reduce Infant mortality to below 30 per thousand
* Prevention & control of all communicable diseases
* Creating awareness about small family
* Integrating social welfare with family planning
* School education up to 14 years free & compulsory
8. *
* The country is in real threat and if this threat is not being taken
care of, everything will be destroyed.
* If the trend continues, people should prepare for the worse
conditions ever. Our honorable ministers talk about poverty,
unemployment, crimes, shortage of land, water, food. But
nobody talks about this menace which is the root cause of all the
problems.
* Everybody should realize in the interest of this country that
population explosion will ruin the country and thousands of more
problems will arise.
* Our population is increasing at the rate of 1.5 crore per annum.
Just think it seriously, where would you get the safe drinking
water, how would you be able to generate employment for such
a huge proportion of people. Cities will turn into a stinking tank.
India would be the biggest slum holder. This gloomy picture will
become reality one day and it has already started showing the
threat.
9. *
There is only one solution for the biggest problem of India which if
not controlled, will destroy the country. The law of 1 child per family
should be strictly followed. There should be certain clauses in the
law:
* 2nd child should be penalized.
* If the family goes for third child, they should be debarred for the
voting rights, they should be banned for govt. jobs, there ration
cards should be cancelled.
* Special benefits should be given to the poor families who are having
one child.
* If the family is having a girl, he should be given permanent govt.
job or other financial benefits.
The above law, if implemented will go a long way in curbing the
threat of population explosion. It has to be done very quickly because
time is running out and we don’t have any options at all. We have to
save this country from complete destruction.
